I just got a cottage for the summer in Bayfield. Does anyone know of any decent trails in the general area (within 30-60 min)? I know it is close to Ippiwash, Goderich, and Grand Bend. Thanks guys.

Living in this area of Ontario is a little inconvenient in terms of trails. We have to drive a little first but we love the sport enough that it doesn’t bother us at all really. All the super sweet trails we occasionally ride are a little further north but you can sometimes find us in the States as well. Hey, nothing wrong with a little variety, eh? Anyway, within 60min of you, in London, is Fanshawe. It’s pretty fun and quick and worth the 60min drive if you ask me. It’s tight and twisty with some good roots and rocks in sections and a few stream crossings thrown in. You can read the reviews in the trail review section of the site. It’s not a crazy, technical trail by any means but it has its moments. It’s a good fun trail that we often do in each direction. London also has Boler Mountain which is much shorter but if you like to get your heart rate up, you can do it there with all the climbs and stuff. Boler is OK but a little short. They do have weekly Thursday night races there which I attend on a fairly regular basis (as long as my odd-hour schedule permits). I enjoy the races there though. There are other trails in the London area also that we ride but those two are enough to get you started for now anyway. Actually, when you do get to Bayfield, if you contact me, I’d be way more than willing to lead you through Fanshawe and show you the loop if you want. It comes in handy to have a little local knowledge when you get to the cottage/campground section. If you’re interested, you can contact me through the site. I often don’t have time to post much anymore but I lurk on an almost daily basis so… Anyway, hope this helps. Ska! hoss10 04-13-2004, 06:47 PM A few years ago (4-5 years) my son used to ride with a group of guys out of Bayfield and Goderich, They met at 10:00 on Sunday in Bayfield at the park in town and Saturday at the Livery in Goderich. (I could have the days switched around) There is/used to be a bike shop in Goderich (look in the local yellow pages for number) The guy who ran the shop road with these guys.If you hand around and ask, you should be able to hook up with them if they still ride. They were mostly older but good riders, exspecially the guy with one leg he was awesome. Good luck. There are trails around not many but some, but they tend to be hidden. joshua_msu 04-14-2004, 06:39 AM Wow, thanks for all the help guys, it is well appreciated. I'll probably make it to Bayfield towards the end of May for at least a week or so, and then throughout the summer I'll being making the drive from Chicago to vacation and relax. Its great to know there are some nearby trails. A 60 min drive to a trail is no problem, considering it takes 7 hours from Chicago. Anyways, Ive read the reviews on those two trails you mentioned Ska, and they sound like they will be just fine. I certainly dont get spoiled with awesome trails here in the Midwest either, but they hold thier own. Anyways, I'll keep in touch and let you know when for sure I will be coming. I plan on riding a lot when Im there, oh yeah, and jet skiing too. Anyways, thanks again, and and if anyone else has suggestions, fire away. If you do some riding up there, make sure you post a trail review. I'm looking for some info on trails near Parry Sound, and I can't find anything, although I'm sure there are lots of trails there. |
