At first, I thought I would have to wait another year before trying this crazed event. Then the organizer said all I needed was a signed waiver from my parents. My parents promptly declined however. Spoiled again! Guess I'll have to wait till college. I heard its pretty hardcore. I have heard that it is eagerly, but not excatly perfectly run. Course mismarkings moved a bunch of riders 3 hours off course last year. Add in the weather extremes, and the nagging notion that the locals are getting rides in pickups up the climbs and it must be a real mental and physical challenge. I have never done it though, so I would wait for actual participants to comment before making a judgement. Search google too, thats what I did.

Hi there,

I have completed this race four time, 1998, 1999,2002, and 2003. I guess I do enjoy doing this race, but it is pretty tough. The only race I have done that I thought was tougher is the Canadian Death Race, but that is only one day, not three.

The weather can be hot and humid to cool and rainy. You do some hike-a-bike, some riding on rail road tracks, over some bridges and plenty of climbing. On day 2, maybe the easiest of the three, you have a 20 mile climb up to 11K feet, but then you get to go down.

Please feel free to send along any specific questions. I can also send you along an article I wrote regarding my expereince in the race that was published in a local news letter (dwmpre@yahoo.com)

Take care

dan
