View Full Version : Niner Bikes s.i.r. 9 Interbike Show Bike
Niner Bikes 10-01-2005, 11:30 PM Hey all,
Thanks so much for your support this year! We just got back from Interbike and were overwhelmed by the response. Steve and I have many more 29 frames coming in the future.
Thanks to the crew at WTB and Kenda for allowing us in their Outdoor Demo booth. Also a huge thanks to Brett at Ultimate Stands for letting us in his booth for the show. Ultimate had the "29er Central" of the show, with most of the builders in the 29er world in one booth!
We wanted to show off a little with our Niner s.i.r. 9 show bike. We spent 3 months building this bike. All the parts you see were polished and detailed. The bike is fully ridable.
Special thanks to Jeff Jones, Marshall (Endless Bikes) , Stan (No Tubes), Tom (WTB), Boone Cogs and Avid for some cool parts.
Steve & Chris

So you find that when you are riding a bike with Jones bars they hold you back?
nightfire 10-03-2005, 10:42 AM What is that sprocket??
It looks like a fixed EAI polished up buy I know it isn't.
Fastskiguy 10-03-2005, 10:52 AM So nice! Can't risk the polish on the discs-you guys must just run w/o using them, right?

Having ridden bars with 11 degrees of sweep and not liking it at all, I'm confident those would hold me back.
I've talked to a few users of the bars and have established that for steep singlespeed climbing, Hbars are not the ticket.
Yes, this is all personal preference, I know.
More than all this is how ugly they are, mostly the obtrusive horns that protrude out front 6 inches.

Guess it's all for the show :)
The sprocket is an Endless I think, as they thank them for helping them build the bike..

MORE close-minded!
b3ksmith 10-03-2005, 01:22 PM Great looking bike! Love that sweet steel.
Will the s.i.r. 9 have a derailluer option?
My ol' knees need gears.
evilbike 10-03-2005, 02:08 PM Heyyyy, are the fork drop outs forward facing to prevent the hub from getting yanked out by the disc brake? The guy that polished all that stuff deserves the most expensive case of beer ever.

Steve_N 10-03-2005, 09:12 PM There is just "something" about steel, especially a beautifully crafted one like that...
Time to clean the drool from the keyboard...
Wish I Were Riding 10-04-2005, 05:27 PM I heard that the rigid fork is matched to a Reba at 80mm. How will the frame geo change if using a 100mm Reba or WB?
I'm really interested in this frame for a Speedhub setup...

I completely respect the personal preference thing. I have to as a SS 29er/rigid rider. Here I am climbing last sunday...

Nat Nat Nat.....
you say that like it's a bad thing! :p
Because I don't want my front end looking like a deer...that doesn't make me close-minded..it makes me in touch with my inner interior-designer... ;)
C'mon, just try them.

cool picture! the feedback i received was regarding super steep climbing. plus, more than a few guys on here have reported the same hand pain with hbars that many get with normal bars...

Steve_N 10-04-2005, 08:34 PM Any reason why you chose Reynolds tubing over others?
Just interested to know...

As much as I wanted to like H-bars that's why I got rid of them. I was walking climbs that I haven't walked in years. I felt like I had absolutely no leverage when the going got steep. For reference I am talking about climbs that would put a geared bike in the 22-34.
I loved them on flat stuff and on the downhills. I loved them on seated climbs. Unfortunately many of my rides include long sections of out of the saddle cranking and it just wasn't worth the compromise.
Mary's were the same situation.
However, I applaud Jeff Jones for bringing them to the market and I'm glad they work well for many of you.

edemtbs 10-12-2005, 06:46 PM Wooooaaaaa.....that's breath being taken away. Nice! And steel! Even better!!
You went with a stylin' Boone up front. Why not stick with the theme out back too??? :)
Very sweet ride anyways & I am being completely sarcastic with my above comment.
- I want. When can I have? :D
2melow 10-13-2005, 12:46 PM Yowzas...that's what i'm talkin' about!
When did you sneak that pic in Jeff?

Hollywood 10-13-2005, 01:48 PM I 'borrowed' her from the Marz booth for the shot. Same with Jamie from the Cadillac booth. "come here darlin', I'm gonna make you famous" ;)
FoShizzle 10-13-2005, 01:58 PM but do they have good personalities?
Hollywood 10-13-2005, 02:29 PM but do they have good personalities?
well the Niner is stiff and fast and light, so I'd say it's more "playful" than the Lenz. The Lenz is more bully-like, barging ahead, taking names.
wait...
ozlongboarder 10-13-2005, 03:40 PM You can see it in their eyes....."why are you nerds so excited about bikes "
2melow 10-13-2005, 04:23 PM Jamie had a giggle that could get a man in trouble....
I had her in 40 feet away in the caddie booth on one side, and the marzocchi girl 60 feet away on the other side. This years booth location was the best ever....
Ojai Bicyclist 11-06-2005, 10:03 PM How does one go about polishing parts like that?
