I personally would hold off any trail riding for the next few weeks to let things firm up....Everything is pretty wet and muddy and this is when the most ecological damage is done to trails....I myself will be building up some base miles on the road....

There is still some snow in the forest. Plus the mud will be thick. You're probably looking at another 2-3 weeks before the trails are rideable (if we get some consistent dry, warm weather).

I was thinking as an alternative to getting miles in on the road, I was going to try either the Elora-Cateract trailway or the other trailway that cuts through Caledon/Terra Cotta. These are usually lime stone and have better scenery than road, with no cars to worry about.

Anyone know what these would be like this time of year?

There's also the IceBreaker (http://www.bikenxs.com/) event in TO this weekend. I'll be making the trip down from Ottawa. I doubt the conditions will be firm, but the weather is looking good.

I live about 2.5 to 3h drive from kelso. I hear a lot about it and just curious if it would be worth a day trip or a weekend trip? I want to do a bit more travelling (day, weekend) trips to other trails in Ontario this season and have been thinking I should hit up kelso for sure this summer.

not sure if you want to dedicate the whole weekend to Kelso
but you could do Kelso (every inch of it) on Sat., and on Sun. hit Hilton Falls, which has some nice and tech. rocky gardens and such. ;) HF is just over the 401 from Kelso, literally

I am curious what trails are left since they put in the tube run where Snakes 'n Ladders was...

I understand the new bridge over the tracks isn't finished yet...

Cheers

Personally, I wouldn't drive 2.5 to 3 hours to ride at Kelso, but if you need to come out this way anyway, it's not a bad place to ride.

Hilton Falls is definitely worth a look too, but you almost need a guide to find the good trails in that place. The maps they give you when you enter the park aren't very helpful, and you will likely just find yourself touring around on the access roads throughout the park.

There is an adjoining forest which also has good trails in it, but obviously there are no maps available for that area.

Be prepared for some very technical riding if you go there. The rocks can be pretty tricky in places, especially if it's wet.

I was just wanting to take some weekend camping trips etc here and there and try other singletrack in the province. Maybe I will do Hilton Falls and if I have time do Kelso. I have family living up in the Collingwood area and have been told to ride the Kalapre Uplands and also 3 Stage for some sweet riding up there.

I have also been told Hilton Falls is a great place. I especially enjoy singletrack technical riding so that place should be sweet. But kelso seems to be talked about lots.

Yes, definitely hit Kolapore if you have the chance. It's a great place to ride. You can spend all day in there if you want.

There's also some deep caves in there, if that interests you, but if you're there to ride, you don't want to be hauling flashlights, ropes, and boots around.

Pick up a map in nearby Ravenna at the general store and you're set. Large area with lots of varied terrain, but you'll get lost without the map.

Three Stage is said to be excellent also.
