Hi,

From Mid-October I'm going to be in Maui on business for approx 6 weeks, should I be bringing my bike?- is there any riding? -anyone to ride with? I'm totally open :-)

Cheers

There's riding here, yes. Six weeks and you'd even consider not bringing it???? ;) Really though,Maui's not a real Mecca for mtn biking but there's a little bit of everything (i.e. XC, FR, DH, even a weekly night ride if you bring your lights).

Any hints on where I might get info on such riding

West side (Lahaina, Kaanapali, Kapalua)-lots of pineapple fields. My limited experience there was mostly on steep hot road/double track. I hear there's some limited cool singletrak with some stunts, but haven't seen it.

Upcountry there's some good singletrack...some DH but mostly (in my experience) more XC oriented with some doubles, big and small (although this is changing weekly). There's a reg. Thurs nite ride (good lights a must) and usually someone is riding at least once on the weekend. I'm usually a Sunday am rider...the GF has Saturday.

I'm going to be working at the top of Haleakala, on the Obervatories- and I think I'll be staying in Pukalani/Makawao- but that's not been decieded yet- I'd be real keen to hook up with some locals while I'm over there to do some riding/socialising.

You're in luck...just happens to be a little area in Makawao that's coming along quite nicely.
