I had wanted to upgrade my shock to the Fox on my 02 Razorback. Today, I contacted K2 regarding replacement:
My original email-
"I have a 2002 Razorback 3.0 that I bought new in Sept of 2003. I am looking to upgrade the rear shock, and I understand that
there may be an upgrade "kit" that includes the Fox shock and seat stays
due to the difference between the 2002 and 2003 models. Is this
conversion available, and what is the price? I looked at the K2 Store on
the website, and it only mentions the shock itself. I am concerned that
if the OEM Noleen "blows up" that the bike becomes useless, due to the
lack of replacement shocks. I have het to have any problems, but I am
concerned that with K2 no longer controlling the manufacture of its
bikes, there may be trouble in obtaining parts/supplies in the future.
This is more of a "pre-emptive strike" on my part, rather than trying to
fix an existing problem. Thank you for your time."
K2's response:
"Unfortunately the seat stay is no longer available. You can get your
current shock serviced by Noleen Shock Service at 760-948-1677 or
www.noleenshockservice.com."
I am a little disappointed. This is my first "expensive" bike since my roadie days back in the late 70's/early 80's. Granted, the shock must be one of the "good" ones, as I have never had a lick of trouble with it. Holds air just fine, performs as advertised. Have ridden the bike on average 5 hours a week for over two years. However, had I known that the rear shock on it was not easily upgradeable (hell, you can't get anything different), I never would have bought this bike. Now with K2 being just a nameplate, I fear that even the Noleen name will not be able to provide service in the future. *When* this shock breaks, I will be forced to make a choice... Continue on the path of "K2" and Noleen and have the shock rebuilt (if it will even be possible) or sink another large chunk of money into a new bike. Those of you with the Noleen shock may want to take note of the website and phone # for future reference.
