Archangel 01-19-2004, 10:12 PM I'm planning an upgrade for my Dean Duke, what do you think would be the best hubs for a light and durable wheelset. My first choice would be the new DT 240S hubs. Actually I'm going to buy them soon... :) What I've read/heard, the quality is top-notch and additionally a shop nearby handles the DT warranties & repairs if something comes out. I've heard that there has been lots of issues with AC hubs and also with Tune rear hubs. No personal experience though but I have some other Tune parts are they are great. Still: go for the DTs! Trevor! 01-19-2004, 10:47 PM I hear nothing but the best regarding DT Hubs, the new ones look great and service is a non issue with them. For me, American Classics really suck I think. I will leave it at that. I never had much luck with my hub which is a shame, consider the low price of them here in Australia. Take a look at King Hubs - I have a pair and would buy another pair anyday. Easy to service, very reliable, great looking and even better is the support KING put behind their products. My Disk wheelset weighs 1630 with rimtape and VXC rims for durability with std spokes. An attachment to entice you. Max 01-19-2004, 11:22 PM i have Am classic (not AC) road hubs, DT 240 hubs and also tune king kong disc hubs. the Am Classic road hubs on my road bike have worked well so far. yeah, i DID wreck the front one, but on the other hand i found out that contrary to the pics on their homepage am cl. road hubs are not intended for CX use. but because my dealer recommended them to me, i had a new replacement hub for free 2 days later. the rear hub is great! the DT 240s...... well, the front hub is fine. the rear hubs is all phugged up. i have to admit that i have the older red ones, and i was told that these lack some special metal ring that the newer ones do have built in. anyway, the rear one is totally lose: the freewheel body is loose (making shifting unprecise), the whole axle is loose (making the rear wheel drag between the brakes). i bought a newer model, slightly used, for 45 €, and the red ones actually are not mine but belong to one of my sponsors, so i dont care. but i'd give the new ones a try, esp. if you have a DT swiss rear shock like i do (match perfectly!) the tune king kong hubs are the best i've ever tried so far: light, loud and great looks. very reliable, and only slghtly more expensive than the DTs. tune has a great customer service, and i prefer the "built in my garage" image they have - if you call them, the boss himself answers the phone and tries to help you. once i needed a replacement bearing and a rear axle for a friend of mine, and he instantly sent one over to austria, with very low prices. i'd gor for tune hubs... carlos 01-20-2004, 06:13 AM go CHRIS KING and forget about hubs for the rest of your life. CODMAN 01-20-2004, 07:06 AM Dt has worked for me so far. They are great and easy to service. Also, look into the Magura Pro line of hubs if you are looking for the disk version. They are DT Hugi 240S (the new version at least will be) and usually quite a bit cheaper than the Hugi240 (even though they are the same!). The only reason I'm not considering CK's is the noise they make, I know they are first quality and light weight, but... I think I'll go with DT. Its an acquired taste indeed, that can sort of take some time to get used too. DT Sounds like a great option. Trevor! |
