I read most of the roll call there, and it's good to see you guys getting out there. Yer prolly more healthy than half them lightweights who might sneer at you.
Right now, I guess I 'might' be a Clyde, I'm not really sure. 5'8" and 185lbs or thereabouts. I don't know what I weigh as I don't measure and don't really care about it anymore.
However, about 11 years ago (and I'm only 29 now) I was the same height, but about 275lbs. So I was a clyde well and truly.I also went down to about 160lbs in the space of 9 months. And that's why I put this post here. I guess it should be how to remove yerself from these ranks, or at least get closer to it.
Personally, I shed my excess weight by drinking obscene amounts of water, at least 4 litres per day, basically drinking nothing else. I also ate lots of rice (carbos), bread (carbos) and vegetables. I did not eat very much meat (protein). I also walked alot, about 5 km per day minimum.
The weight came off very quickly, in fact too quickly because due to my age, my size and other factors, I was border line anorexic. That's what happens when you have the bone and muscle structure of a 250lb+ person with no fat hanging off, you get sick!
So now, I sit at about 180-190 depending on the season, and don't really worry about the weight anymore, as long as I am sensible about what I eat. I'm never gonna really get that monkey off my back, and I do have to be careful of what I eat as I know I can pack on the pounds real fast if I eat like a fool.
That's all I really wanted to say, that I lost the weight (an awful lot of it) and without too much trouble. I can't say I was sensible about it, but I managed to get through it without permanent damage...
Oh, and the guy who said that something sweet was like a drug, try a single hard candy after 9 months of no refined sugar. You start bouncing off the walls!
P.S. You also have to have a reason for shedding the weight. Something to look forward to when you are a slim, lithe creature. Whatever that reason is, it's gotta be good, and it's gotta be sensible. Giving yerself a reward for losing it won't work. But having something to look forward to will. Something like being able to haul in that weightweenie up any hill or chasing yer kids around or something like that. Saying you'll get a new bike for losing the pounds isn't it. I tried that for years before, and it didn't do squat. But having a REAL reason worked first time.
So, those of you who are trying to lose some excess baggage, let yer brother know how you are doing it, how you are doing with it and suggestions nop matter how oddball they might be. As far as I am concerned, if it works then it can't be completely oddball can it?
:)
