I just started riding and had no problem on a moderate level trail. My problem is that I am riding with a decently experienced rider & a 6 year old so I am trying to find trails that we can all go on near home. One where my fiancé won't be too bored but not too challenging that we have to stop at every hill for his son. Any help is appreciated.

There are plenty of trails in SE MI that suit your riding style. You made no mention of the location you live so I'll pass along this website to guide you on your choice: MMBA Website (http://www.mmba.org/)

The MMBA website has a trail guide page with good descriptions of the trails in MI and their locations to guide you. If you want check out a decent map, you might want to start out with the MI DNR map. Map here: DNR Map (http://www.michigandnr.com/ParksandTrails/parkmap.aspx) . Now... it only shows the State Parks and their locations, but at least it gives you a reference point to start out.

And don't be shy about posting on the MMBA forums too. Lots of nice riders to help you our there as well (along with the usual internet axe murderers ;) )

Island Lakes Rec area is perfect. It's got relatively smooth ST and there's a shorter loop for the youngster, not much climbing or any amount of difficult obstacles, yet it's not boring.

If it's still there, there's a trail in Novi (Tree Farm?) that was pretty casual, but provided some decent riding, too.

i'd try rocking stony creek and island lake. they both are pretty intermediate/beginner but they're fun just to zoom around in

Novi tree farm is still there and they have actually improved it recently.

Bloomer park in Rochester is decent, although its not really a loop, more like random trails.

Parts of Bald Mountain are pretty easy also.
