Justbuy a Fisher Rig and Pimp it. I just rode one, and it's all that. Swap the Reba for a Km fork, save lotsobucks.

Just try to shake the thought that the Rig frame is almost 2lbs heavier.... ;)
Also, the EBB in the 9er is more long-term friendly, IMO.
Also, the 9er is flippin' sweet lookin and comes in a few colors.
Oh , yes, I leave you with this...compare it to the GF.... :D

Haha, almost 2lb? Not even 1lb :-)
Weight is the best place for some extra weight, now you again ;-)

Are you including the BB?

Yes. 2kg for an XL Rig, barely a pound less for the Niner, or it would be stupid. Rig's EBB can be upgraded for further savings, of course, it's like 310g or so.

Call up Nova (www.novacycles.com) and get a Bushnell EBB for the rig - they weigh 140 grams (on my nice accurate digi scale) and they cost about $75. With the 170g EBB savings, you're getting into the 9er ballpark at a tiny fraction of the price, given that if you part out the Rig and ebay everything, the frame is basically free.

I do remember someone weighing a large Rig frame sans EBB at 3.6 pounds or so - has anyone actually thrown a 9er on the scale yet? Padre, next time your better half wants to upgrade parts or rebuild, get us a scale weight, eh?

What are you talking about? You can get a Rig in any color you want for an additional $75 http://www.olympicpowdercoating.com/ ;)

I seriously considered a new Niner but the math did not make sense. Decided to get the Rig powdercoated and spent the extra $$ on a sick wheelset and Boone Bling. :D

As far as the weight and scandium element….. it is a not issue for me because I run a Thudbuster and do not race.

However when Niner comes out with their geared frame later this year it may be too tempting to pass up. :)

I remember that too. But I seem to remember that L Rig being weighed without the BB installed. I do have a scale. Her medium Niner, with EBB installed and a salsa seat collar, weighed 3.3lbs exactly.

Would that really just be a drop in replacement for the Rig EBB? Has anyone done it? That's extremely tempting....

I just heard from Kona that Kona will have the Unit 29er on their website with geom and pricing in the beginning of July. It is an 06 model.

Walt, if there weren't such a waiting list for your frames...

Padre, i love the look of 1x1's bike. I would almost build it exactly in color, size, wheels, fork, cranks.
Kinda scary really.

I wish 9niner would have a rear disc frame brake jack (that brace that goes between the chain and seat stays). Unless it is truely not needed, but the frame is aluminum...

I had a 26" Unit and A (FS) and liked them both. Kona has nice stuff for the price.

The eccentric unit is sold by itself - just call Nova and ask them about it. You obviously don't need the shell (that's the part that's steel or aluminum - the eccentrics themselves are all aluminum). If someone measures the ID of the Rig EBB shell, I can tell you for sure whether it'll work. I think the EBB's are all a standard size, though. I don't remember if the Rig is a setscrew setup or a pinch bolt one - if it's a setscrew deal, you can remove the set screws, too, for another 10-20g savings or so. If it's a pinchbolt, you'll have to leave them in, though.

If we assume the M rig is about 5-10% lighter than the L, a M would weigh 3.3 or 3.4 pounds without the EBB. Add the $75/140g Bushnell EBB, and you're about 1/3 of a pound heavier than the Niner.

Bummer! Any other ideas to save 170g with $70 besides swapping tires? I'm happy with my tires :D

Saw this on an ebay L Rig frame.

"Frame weight without seat collar or bottle boss bolts is as follows:

*
1945g / 4.29lbs with EBB
*
1650g / 3.63 lbs w/out EBB"
