View Full Version : XC and DH race on Oahu!
spicoli-ss 06-06-2005, 05:01 PM Just to let everyone know there will be a XC and DH race at Kualoa Ranch on July 31st! More info can be found at www.bikeshophawaii.com w/ the NORBA one day license.
It will be a good time for all....
ArmySlowRdr 06-06-2005, 08:08 PM ..on showing my support------but for the XC--a timed race of 20 minutes plus 1 lap-wow-unbelievable. Whatever happened to 8 to 24 mile+ depending on category xc races?
Hopefully someone decides soon to decide and publish a date on a 24 hr mtb xc race. Or maybe that event is contingent upon the success of this mad dash.

Most of the short track races on the mainland....xprt and pro, have been going to this format, I guess to get more public watching and interest....at least that is what the lead NORBA guys said....
ArmySlowRdr 06-06-2005, 08:34 PM ..that short track is a fast, furious, exciting,-- and fun for the spectator, format. Unless I am misinformed afaik most events on the mainland offering short track also offer the longer traditional xc.
Will the venue (kualoa) at least be open after the events finish, so we can get some trail riding for some mileage in for fun?

That is true as well with the longer event. Since this is the first NORBA XC event in Hawaii for some time now, I hope to see more interest in this, with a longer event attached to it. Unfortunately, Kualoa is afraid of taking too much time during their busy summer tourist season....but no worries, more is on the drawing table (and more excitement)...24hour series? Marathon? Cyclocross race? Mtn Bike Festival? It is all doable for sure here on Oahu.

I hear the DH will be a run from the bunkers on the double track near the road and finish near the paintball area. Doesn't sound too technical, and there would be a bit of pedaling on the road above the main buildings. I wonder if the idea is to do a "Super DH" style course...something mostly downhill, lots of pedaling, fewer jumps & drops, and longer than the usual NORBA DH. Sounds like fun...hmmmm, maybe it's time to fit the MRP to the Enduro and do some sprints.
inkdwheels 06-07-2005, 09:18 PM The single speeders will be out and about. And by out, i mean out front. And by about, i mean about 1 lap ahead of all the gearies!!!!
Stumpjumper808 06-09-2005, 05:13 PM I havent competed much on my Mtn Bike but this looks like fun. Should be able to crack the beers by noon so I am in.
See you guys then,
bill
spicoli-ss 06-09-2005, 05:46 PM and that's why it's good to have the short track event 'short'...so more beers can be consumed by nightfall!

Would a Karpiel Disco Volante be overkill? Seven inches in the front. Seven to nine in the rear. 40 pounds on the nose.
Thanks
spicoli-ss 06-12-2005, 03:01 PM short travel bikes (6 inch) would probably be the best. it is going to be a flowy course.....I will be in Hawaii at this time with no plans set in stone, and racing the DH is a big possibility. I'll probably pack up the wife and kids, and camp at the Kualoa Beach Park for the weekend, gonna be a blast.
I'm toying with the idea of doing both the CC and the DH back to back. Anyone else interested?
Vader 06-20-2005, 02:10 PM Just sent my entry form in and will be racing the DH event. Iook for the guy on the polished Titus Quasi. Now I just have to figure out where to stay.

Yeah, it will be a lung bursting, high speed event. As far as technical. It is not so rooty, but is a fast course with dirt, grass, and gravel sections. Hope you can be there!
bgasroller 07-24-2005, 02:56 AM See you there Chris, Looking foward for some good action.

Indeed it will, Thanks for the extension, it took till today to get my ass down to the town shop. Should be fun. My b'day is saturday so my wife asked what I wanted to do, I said lets swap saturday for sunday,We can do our weekly house chores saturday so Sunday I can mtn bike in the morning and enjoy good ppl and cold beer in the afternoon. I got an ugly green stumpjumper, we'll probably set up a party tent and will bring at least a case.
I promise to give my best lackluster performance and to enjoy it.

Well NORBA requires that we give 2 runs before the event. However, if you get 100 in, that's OK by me. Registration starts at 7:00am, so you can start then. I am not sure when the shuttle starts yet, probably about that time. But you should be able to get more than 2 runs in for sure...
I will see you tomorrow!

ArmySlowRdr 07-31-2005, 05:32 PM Chris--good job; great event it was. Nice course, just right music, and well organized---oh and muy fun. Thanks for putting it on.
pineapplebob 08-08-2005, 10:30 PM Big Mahalo to all who put the races together and to the participants. Thanks for the picture of my dog Koko - nice photo. Anyone racing at Mountain Man next weekend? If you're not a triathlete, you can do the race as a relay...
SocalNthe808 08-12-2005, 05:51 PM when will there be another short track event?
spicoli-ss 08-12-2005, 06:24 PM when will there be another short track event?
well scotty and I were going to announce this later, but since the question came up...there will be another xc race (sorry, no dh at this one) on october 30th. venue TBD. just signed and mailed all my forms to NORBA. this event is not going to be a short track but around 8 mile loops...start thinking that you will be racing at least 3 laps....
as far as the short track goes, I would love to come up with something at camp timberline, and i am researching it....
we can't let all the road guys have all the events!

bgasroller 08-25-2005, 12:37 AM Hey Chris,
That clyds class we were taking about, I don't think there is to many 200lbs plus guys. So maybe a 35lbs and over bike class would be good. There's more of those types.
