I'll be headed for Tsali on the 19th. Somehow, I've never ridden at Bent Creek and would love to have a guide to ride with for 2-3 hours, probably around 11:00.

Somehow, I've never ridden at Bent Creek and would love to have a guide to ride with for 2-3 hours, probably around 11:00. I would love to be there, but i have in-laws coming to celebrate my birthday. have a blast for me. element cmweldon 03-15-2004, 07:25 AM Let me know if you are still on and I can join you for some riding. I don't excel at anything but can hang on climbing and descending and know bent creek fairly well. CMW carter1 03-15-2004, 10:38 AM For now, I'm still on. I was thinking about Kitsuma, but think I'll stick with the original plan of getting in a ride at Bent Creek. Hopefully, I'll be picking up my new bike Thusday night and leaving Apex around 5:00 Friday. PM me for details later in the week. element 03-15-2004, 09:18 PM {snip} Hopefully, I'll be picking up my new bike Thusday night {snip} Congrats on the new ride. What are you getting? Hollis 03-15-2004, 10:13 PM for 2-3 hours, starting at around 11:00. carter1 03-16-2004, 03:03 AM The new bike is a Titus. It will be capable of much more than me right now, but my conditioning is coming along-at least it appears so down here in the flatland. I'm not fast either, I just love to ride. I should have a better idea of when the bike will be done this afternoon. I hope to meet some of you guys Friday. carter1 03-16-2004, 10:55 AM The bike will be ready by Thursday! I'm leaving Apex (near Raleigh) around 5-5:30 am Friday. I should be able to be at the traihead at Bent Creek by 10:30-11:00 without any problems. Would love to have any of you locals looking for a nice easy paced warmup for your Saturday ride to join and guide me for 2-3 hour ride. This will be first ride on new bike-it HAS to be a good one! Hollis 03-16-2004, 08:47 PM Rice Pinnacle is the 1st parking lot on the right. Hard Times is further down on your left. I guess I could ride circles around both parking lots, wearing my Mtbr jersey on my Black Isis with a Yellow Fork . carter1 03-17-2004, 02:58 AM or as my wife calls it the "Big Ugly"! Its an F250 crew cab pick up and its what Ford calls Amber in color-you can't miss it. I was thinking that I would like to ride IFG, but will leave that up to you Hollis. Which trailhead do you want to meet at-give me dirctions and I'll be there. cmweldon 03-17-2004, 10:01 AM Alrightee, my schedule is open and I'm up to go too. If that is cool with you folks. I love to ride w/new people. I am strictly intermediate but can tackle advanced stuff when I'm not too worried about cuts and bruises. I am pretty familiar with Bent Creek and this can be my weekly ride there. Post when or how you're meeting and I'll meetcha. Car: Black audi w/roof rack Bike: Blue SC Blur Me: Pasty white guy with goofy grin See ya carter1 03-17-2004, 10:47 AM I can't wait to get there. I guess I'm the wildcard here as far as time goes. As I said, I'm leaving here around 5:00 am. I think its about 5 hours to Asheville, so 10:30 -11:00 should be my arrival time assuming that Bent Creek is about 20 minutes south of Asheville. Someone please post the best directions from 40 to the trailhead (and you guys pick the trailhead) and I'll be there. If someone wants to PM me I will give you my cell # in case something changes while I'm in route. Looking forward to it guys! Hollis 03-18-2004, 09:39 AM I dont know what this rain is going to do to the trails. Guess we'll have to wait & see. Fridays forecast: Sunny & 65°, that sounds good. Take I-40 all the way to Asheville. You're close to the exit when you see a sign for the Farmers Market. Take Exit 47, Turn Left & keep going straight on Hwy 191 (Hwy 191's name changes to Brevard Rd). After the 4 lanes narrow down to 2 lanes, you'll want to Turn Right at the 2nd red light. You should see a sign for the NC Arboretum. Go up this hill and at the top you'll see Apartments on your right. Keep the Apts to your right side and keep going. Soon, you should see black fence/gates for the Arboretum and some building construction. Rice Pinnacale will be on your Right. Your last chance for a spare tube or powerbar: Carolina Fatz Shortly after the 4 lanes become 2, a shoe store will be on your right, the bike shop is on the left. So CMWeldon and anybody else...see ya at 11am at Rice Pinnacle??? carter1 03-22-2004, 05:55 AM Thanks to Hollis and Corey for the guided torture (uh ride!) at Bent Creek last Friday! What a cool break-in ride on the new bike. Can't wait to get back up there-probably about 6 weeks. Hollis 03-24-2004, 09:40 PM Carter coming up the Lower Explorer Loop. (when did they install a swamp there? :D) carter1 03-25-2004, 03:16 AM who's that fat guy with nobody behind him?! (Because everyone's waiting on him!) cmweldon 03-29-2004, 09:26 AM Good riding with you two. Give me a holla if your hard up for someone to ride with and I'll make a point to hook up with you guys. |
