    Upper body protection for XC

I've recently gone from riding an all mountain bike to XC but I still desend like I had the suspension for it. Too many trips OTB and I'm looking for some lightweight upper body armour that won't be cumbersome for XC riding.

    Whats the preferences out there?

Sounds like you need a bike that doesn't make you go OTB.

Maybe some of that 661 under Armour stuff. No back protection but it will do shoulders on the short sleeve and shoulders, forearm/elbow on the longsleeve.

I was able to get some 661 compression shirts with pads from chainlove awhile back for cheap. The stiching sucks though on the 661 to be honest. Gform also makes a compression shirt with pads.

I used to use forearm guards.

Much more than that seems like it'd be pretty miserable on the way up.

That seems like a lot more bulky than what I was thinking you we're going for, of you want that much protection check out the vpd 2.0 jacket from POC. It's money but works well and doesn't have much bulk.

So I've got some TLD armor on the way but I still wonder why more XC-ers don't wear any kind of protection. It's inevitable if you ride enough, you will crash. I come from a dirtbike background and to ride without protective gear is unthinkable. You go just as fast on a XC mtnbike, as you do on the moto in the woods. So why isn't there more lightweight, breathable armor available out there for XC and only bulky gear for DH? Maybe it's just where I ride but our XC trails around here are equal to others DH stuff.

They have been hit by too many cars on their road bike and suffer brain damage.
