... and if we just ... So this is what happen to my bike protection chain today...

So today I left my bike parked with my chain locked to the front wheel, fork and frame.

After leaving my bike for around 4 hours I came back for it and I noticed that some of the paint of the chain was damaged and that someone tried to take my bike.

I don't know what did they try to use to brake it but my chain did not suffer a scratch, only some paint damage.

    Here are some pictures.

I just feel somewhat happy that my chain resisted the attack and made me feel a little bit more relieved that I can leave my bike parked.

It's not a fancy kryptonite but I am happy with it. I used an old mountain bike tube to cover it so it does not scratch the paint of my bike.

looks like a cheap torch was used, they were probably interupted and didnt get a chance to burn thru it or they had an HVAC brazing torch setup that was stolen, good for brazing. I sometimes think that people are watching too much McGyver.....

Glad your bike wasn't stolen. Did you use a heat gun on the tube to shrink it?

Nope, the tube was from an old 26" mountain bike wheel. The chain is a 1.5" max outside diameter and 4ft long.

It was not necessary to heat it. I did not know that I could do that even if I did not needed to.

For me to put the chain in the tube it took me around 2 hours. The tube and the chain did not had a clearance so that's why it took me so long. I could have used a little bit of oil in the chain or tube but did not wanted a messy chain.

By the way I just noticed I posted in the wrong forum section. when I read protection I did not realize it was for apparel and body protection.

If there's a moderator can you please move this thread to General discussion.

Thanks. I was surprised because i only had this bike for only 2 weeks and where i left my bike is a nice neigborhood.

I would like to test it with a bolt cutter but i don't have one

Does someone know if i can change this thread to general discussion forum section?

Awesome! I thought this was going to be a post of a couple of pieces of chain and a missing bike.

Yea, that was my intention with the title.

The disadvantage of this chain is that it's weight is 8 pounds. I am getting use to it but I think is worth while it protects my bike like this time.
