Looking For An Affordable But Deeper Protective Helmet

I had two pretty bad crashes last weekend and have been questioning my current helmet choice. I have a Specialized Align helmet currently for road and mountain biking. I am now looking for something more focused for mountain biking and with lower protection in the back if possible. I've got a scar from a surgery I had a few years ago at the base of my skull and would like to find something with a little more protection if possible.

I would like to find something at a decent price if possible. Any recommendations for something affordable but with good protection? I looked at the Giro Rift and Revel but don't know much about them. I also saw the Fox Flux which covers better but is higher priced.

    Any help would be appreciated.

I have a flux, it fits my melon ok. I don't have an opinion on how well it works as I have not crashed yet......I tried on a POC a while back. Really loved the fit, definitely at a higher price point though.

The Fox Flux is pretty awesome and can be had for $50 if you search. The Fox Striker is nice as well. Giro Feature is decent but I don't think it breathes as well as the Flux.

Giro Feature was on sale for under $30 last week at Steep and Cheap.

I'm happy with the Giro Feature. It helps if you can try them on first for fit.

I bought the Bell Super for the reason of going after more coverage. Coming from moto, most mtb helmets seem really lame to me. I go as hard as I can downhill, and want something that does the best job, without going to a full-face DH helmet.

They are $125 - generally somewhat more expensive for MTB helmets, but to me, this helmet clearly has more coverage than most.

But yes if your budget is pretty tight, the Giro Feature is a decent alternative.

I am on the same situation, and I've tried the Bell Super at my local store this week. I was deceived after everything I've read about it. The fit for my head was not good and the quality of the materials doesn't look any better than the cheaper ones. If you are doing downhill and give some value to your face, maybe it would be worth the extra effort and go for the new Parachute MTB Parachute

I ended up picking up the Flux. I like the fit and coverage. I haven't had a chance to ride with it yet but think I will be very happy with it.
