I want armor that does not make me look like a hot shot.

I had a bad crash this weekend. From now on, I'd like to wear more than just a helmet and kneepads. However, I'm a novice rider. I prefer fire roads to single track. I don't go particularly fast. My problem is that if I wear more pads and a full face helmet, I'll look like some sort of wanabe DH racer. Given my riding, I will look particularly silly.

I'm soliciting input. Should I just bite the bullet and look silly with armor for a basic ride? Is there some armor that does not look so much like armor?

    Thanks

Elbow pads can help a lot, and can be worn under a shirt/jacket if you want stealth.

I stuff my armor under a long-sleeved shirt. The shirt becomes disposable as you will shred it.

For your helmet issue maybe look into a "MET Parachute" helmet. I've seen some in person on the trails and they look pretty slick.

They look more like sleeves. I have my first crash with them ( really great protection.
They easily fit under a shirt.Great investment

G form knee and elbow pads are stealth. I wore them a few times for winter riding (esp on ice) They are light weight and great for hot summer trail riding days

I have TLD full upper body armor shirt that I really like, but it I can start to overheat if it's above about 75*F for trail riding. I had a wreck without wearing it recently and hurt my elbow/lower arm area. Was thinking about those TLD elbow guards. Whatever you do, just wear a loose jersey over it and the armor won't be that noticeable to other people. Very happy with the TLD shorts I have too. 7605 or something like that I think?
