    Does friend need knee/elbow pads?

I got a friend who only rides trails, gravel, etc but doesn't do anything crazy like jumping off rocks or flying down hills. He does the occasional jumps to show off. He wants to get knee and elbow pads, but since he's not doing anything hardcore,I'm not sure if he needs it.

I think having it and not needing it is better than needing it and not having it,but since he just bought the bike after saving, his funds are limited at the moment. So if he doesn't need the pads that would money he didn't need to spend.I'm stuck as to what he should do. Have him get them or not. I already mentioned my theory. Am I wrong?

He looked for some 661 KS knee pads, found some for a good price, but the size was wrong.Help me out guys/gals.

For me if your friend feels more confident with the pads then he/she will be better to have them. But I would save some money for good pads for protection and ventilation. But it is ultimately up to your friend

Perhaps he's not into the "crazy" stuff due to lack of confidence on the bike. As you already said it, best to have them on and not need them (helmet would be a great example), than vice versa. I would encourage him to get it.

He going to get them. He already has a helmet. He's got around $100 to use,so he'll just have to see what he can find.

Look at 661 Kyle Straits. Cheap, good protection and freedom of movement.

Yep.I saw them yesterday. The size he needs is out of stock though.XL would probably be too big. He has a bottom of 14 and top of 16,unless he's not measuring correctly.

Edit: Just chatted with Hucknroll and he was measuring wrong,he wasn't going low and high enough.Looks like he would need an XL.

Now what about elbow pads? Suggestions

    661 rhythm pads

Long time lurker first post here.....
Don't mean to change the subject....

I'm also looking for knee pads.
I've got a pair of 661 veggie knee pads, but they're way too big for me (size XL purchased - should have NOT listened to advice that they are on the small side )

So I got some Lizard Skins soft knee pads and they are a nice fit & not too bulky.
Went for a ride today and forgot my pads - as a result I was faster & enjoyed the ride more than I normally do.

So I'm thinking about getting a pair of 661 Rhythm knee pads.
I'm ready to buy, but need some advice on sizing...Unfortunately there is no sizing detail available for these other than S/M/L/XL...Nothing on the 661 website either.

Any current 661 Rhythm users out here care to chime in with their experiences regarding the fit on these pads?

    Thanks

Looks like he's going with the Kyle Strait knee and the Fox Launch elbow.
    Got both for $60 shipped.

Sounds like he could use some of the light weight pads that are available.
