Clean oil off shoes
I have some Diadoras, 3-4 years old. Don't know what model. Silver, with one ratchet strap and two velcro straps. Carbon sole.
Standing on a plastic bucket, the top broke and my right foot went completely into the used motor oil inside.
How do I safely clean the discoloring oil off the shoe??
Don't know about the oil per se, but in interest of regional air quality , I wash my Bontys in soap and water occasionally. It doesn't hurt them in the least. They are made of 100% synthetic material -- I'm guessing all bike shoes are.
I'd do it ASAP -- the water isn't going to do as much damage as oil in any case.
I would suggest getting a tub of GOOP hand cleaner paste. It's only about .99 a tub at Walmart. Smear the paste all over the shoe, let it sit for a bit, and then rinse in warm water. I use it on my laundry and fine clothes all the time to get all the danged stains out I'm always putting on my clothes. You might need to repeat several times but it will work. Dawn liquid detergent is also a great oil/grease cutter if you have that handy.
