    Annoying stickers

I ride a trail in DFW called Arbor hills a lot and the grass has millions of stickers. I started wearing long socks which helped but I keep ruining socks and tired of spending 30 minutes picking out the stupid stickers. Anyone have any experience with socks that might now collect stickers as easy. Thanks for any advice.

Im in literally the exact same situation. Socks covered In burrs after north shore or arbor hills. After a few rides im back to short socks and no protection. I think id prefer the scratches on my legs from my platform pedals and the weeds than dealing with the burrs

The burrs stick more easily to cotton, flannel and fleece material.

In our neck of the woods its more common in the fall when they plants go to seed

If you can wear puncture resistant material like nylon, canvas, or wind or rain pants. Other wise you'll be picking out the burrs no matter what!

I wear long socks to protect my legs and throw them out after a ride if there are many stickers.

Nylon should do the trick, as it's a material which refuses those burrs. Thing is you figure it out how you put it on your leg, it's going to make your legs really warm because it doesn't let heat go out.

The first day I brought home my new bike I removed all the stickers except the one of my LBS. That way, when I take it back for free maintenance, they appreciate it. What in the world is everybody else talking about.

Try shorty or trail gaiters - google search helps - if you wanna deal with putting on another piece of gear (and you keep you socks). Or get the taller calf-length gaiters.

i buy these nylon hiking cargo style pants that zipper off at the knee and convert to shorts at big 5 sports. i go shorts to start any trail, and keep the legs in my pack, they take up virtually no room being that they are nylon material similar to those found on running pants. if the weather gets cold, or the stickers start turning up, i stop and throw the pant legs on. takes less than a minute and im back on my bike. i havent worn anything else when mountain biking or hiking for the last 5 years. they go for about 20 bucks a pair. ive seen the same type of pants that have a little bit thicker material for about 35 bucks.

Second the gaiters. They will keep the socks covered. No long pant will. I use leather half-chaps (equestrian gear), though. Looks like I am wearing knee high boots.

I have the same issue here in south Florida. Damn sand spurs everywhere! I have not found a remedy as of yet. It's pretty annoying, but gives me something to do on my fitness breaks during long rides. I carry a leatherman multitool in my camelbak, and use that to pick them off.

Yea and with this same logic, don't wear a helmet either. Protecting yourself is for girls!

oh yes, Stick tites as I call them. I tried under armor socks and the stick tites were much easier to remove. Just brush them off basically.
