I recommend the Shimano m162. I considered the Shimano AM45, but it's over 100 grams heavier per shoe, flexier on shimano's rating scale (5 vs. 7), and it's clunky, which may interfere with chain and seat stays. I got them from Jensonusa.com for $99.

Give mavic's a look. After all, the winner of the EWS was wearing them the entire series

Either a XC or DH shoe. Depends if your going clips or flats. Clips then get a stiff XC shoe to take advantage of the power transfer. Flats then get some 510's for ultimate grip. Avoid AM shoes as they don't do anything well.
Switzerland doesn't need a bike park, Switzerland is a bike park.

Jared Graves was right behind him and he was using AM45 and MP66 all season. I'm coming off some Mavic Alpine XL's and they're too flexy for me, but their enduro specific shoe has a much stiffer sole. Also, the type of pedal you're using will affect the feel of the shoe as well. I use shimano xt's trail pedals. Not much of a platform compared to CB Mallets.

I'm looking for new shoes right now, and am looking for a similar shoe. Your budget is going to make it difficult. I'm looking at the Mavic crossmax and Alpine XL, and the Giro Terraduro. The crossmax and terraduro arent out yet, but will be by the end of the year. If you are riding clipless, take a look at these.

A little over budget but check out the Teva Pivot. Hands down the best clipless shoe I've ever used, light years better than the AM45. Light, stiff, and comfortable.
