I would upgrade to a different bike. Personally, I would rather have eurospek's kona kula with a tune-up than a montague with $600 worth of upgrades.

I just completed my x50 upgrade. Like you, I intentionally bought the x50 so I could strip it down to the frame and then build it up. This is an old post, so I figure you already made all of the purchases you wanted to make, but here's a parts list of everything I put on my bike:

    - Rock Shox XC 30 TK
    - Crank Brothers Iodine Headset
    - Kore Stem and Flat Bar
    - Crank Brothers Iodine Grips
    - Shimano Hone M600 Dual Control Shifter / Brakes
    - Shimano Deore M591 Rear Derailleur
    - Shimano Deore M590 Front Derailleur
    - Shimano M430 Crank (22-32-44T, 170mm)
    - Shimano BB-ES25 Bottom Bracket
    - Clarks C9 9 Speed Chain
    - Shimano Deore SM-RT61 160mm Rotor
    - Shimano HG61-9 Cassette 11/32
    - AlexRims DP20s
    - Schwalbe Crazy Bobs
    - Shimano 160mm Rotors
    - Specialized Carbon Seatpost
    - Sunlite Folding Pedals

I configured it for urban riding, but I have a second set of wheels and tires that I put on it for trail riding. Hope this helps!

JRSR / casshern69 how did you mount your rear disc brake caliber? I have a X50 also and would like to upgrade to disc brakes, do you have any advice?

I used an A2Z Universal Adapter and it worked just fine. It was easier than I anticipated. You can find more about them here:

    www.a2zcomponents.com

Just do a little hunting for the part number and you should be able to find one on eBay or though Google. I did find one on Amazon:

Amazon.com: A2Z Rear Disc Brake Mount for Tabless Frame, DM-UNI: Sports & Outdoors

    Hope that helps.

How did you route your hydraulic cable in the rear? Do you have pictures?

How did you keep the Adapter from rotating? It rotates backwards when Im sitting on a hill with the brakes on.
