So my rear shock is stock with an rp2 and my brakes are the m445. Both need upgrading but which should I do first with limited funds. Have around 300.00 and can buy a shock off pinkbike like the dhx 5 or Rock Shox Monarch RC3 and the brakes would be zee with 203mm rt66l rotors.
I vote brakes. I think you'll notice that upgrade more. If you can somehow set aside $20 after the brakes, just get a Fox seal kit and rebuild the RP2. It's stupid simple.
Nothing wrong with the shock as it is only a few months old. I was want a beefier shock with 2.25 stroke to allow 6.7" of travel instead of 6 and am a burly guy around 280lbs and feel the dhx or rc3 would be better.
if you can find a set of brakes at a good price you might not be too far from the budget to get the current shock tuned by Push. Maybe look for a deal on Xt's with 180mm rotors?
The push mod makes a big difference on Fox shocks. I'd call Push first and see what they have to say. Also post a Q in the Giant forum asking if anyone else had Pushed their shock on the Reign. Bottom out bumper would probably be another good idea.
300 for zee and 203 rotors are a great deal. I have been looking at brakes for a long time and decided on the zee. If I go brakes now then I will do the shock later in 4 months or so. I also want shifters as I feel x9 or x0 would be much better than the x5 on my bike now.
Brakes would come first in my opinion too. You would rather have the stopping power before you have the more confident platform to push it faster... Shimano's recent generation of SLX and better has been great- I would expect that would translate to their zee also
Understood. However, if I could have a better performing suspension vs having .7 more inches of travel I'd choose the former. For example, more mid-travel support in favor of more travel. In any case, your bike and your call - I respect your choices regardless.
I don't understand why people would want to spend money on brakes if the brakes are powerful enough to lock the wheels and work when needed. Do your brakes rub? Noisy? Fade? Don't lock up the wheels with one finger? Then upgrade. Otherwise, what's the point?

My brakes are not strong enough. Last time i went down a steep hill it scared the crap out of me as i did not have enough stopping power. Felt like i just had to hang on for the ride.
I am going to upgrade the brakes first then worry about buying a shock later and getting it pushed.

Thanks for suggestions. I ordered the brakes for 270 shipped from Germany. Did not have the extra 50 for the rotors so will either run 180 front and 160 rear with the zee for a bit or buy a single 203 and ron 203 front and mismatch 180 rear unless someone knows a great set of 203mm rotors for 40.00 shipped lol.

Get off the brakes then, that's why you bought a Reign.
Forget the rear shock. Put a lyrik or a 36 on that bike. The 32 rides like a wet noodle and im only 150 pounds. I sold my reign because it required too much modification to get it to be the bike I wanted it to be. If you want to upgrade the rear shock because it blows through the midstroke, welcome to the reality of maestro design. Another reason why I sold mine.

Not the reason why i want to upgrade my rear shock. Love my reign just want to improve it overall. Even if i invest 1500 more i come to retail price on it as it was a gift. I want to upgrade the fork also, but when i started mountain biking i did not have the options for the forks like we have today.
