Truvativ stylo crank torque
I have an 07 stumpjumper comp with truvativ stylo crankset (single bolt). I had been searching for a creak on my bike, when I needed to remove my crank to get at all my pivot bearings. Although I'm happy to say after months of searching the bearings or bolt tightness were the problem and I have eliminated the creak, after an hour of riding I have what feels like roughness and play in my bottom bracket. I don't have a torque wrench, so when i reassembled the cranks i just cranked the crank bolt up as tight as it was when I removed it. Now I see it should be only between 12 - 14 Nm. Any suggestions of what to do? (Except in future I should just take to my LBS)

Re: Truvativ stylo crank torque
If you are talking about the 8mm crank bolts they should be torqued around 50nm. I think youre talking about the self extracting cover piece that uses a much larger hex? Is that where you saw the 12-15 nm torque spec? If so, that shouldnt be cranked on but should be pretty snug.

Phew. Yeah it was the smaller one I was worried about. I didn't even touch the larger one. Should I? Could that be the reason for the loose / rough feeling?

Re: Truvativ stylo crank torque
If it feels loose its probably the 8mm is not torqued enough. If its rough its probably the bearings in the bottom bracket.
