New question here. Trek Fuel EX 8 27.5 Plus 2017 vs Canyon SPECTRAL AL 7.0 EX 2017

    Hello,

I want to buy one of this two bikes, but I have some doubts.

    1. Trek Fuel EX 8 27.5 Plus 2017 - around 2550 euro
    - it has 32.9 cm BB height with 210mm rear shock travel.

I read something that Trek doesn't recommand using normal 27.5 tires on this plus bike because of the BB height, that could affect the handling.

Would it be ok if I would use 27.5x2.30-2.40 tires ? How much the handling would be affected ? Does someone tested 2.30-2.40 tires on this kind of bike ? I'm not a fun of plus tires.

    2. Canyon SPECTRAL AL 7.0 EX 2017 - around 3000 euro
    - it has 33.5 cm BB height with 140mm rear shock travel.

This comes with 2.3 tires, it has better specs, is more expensive, lighter, but it hasn't the boost frame/fork.

What would be the better option between this two ? What would you pick ?

    Thanks,

The Fuel needs either plus tires, or 29er wheels/tires. If you want a 27.5 bike, get the Canyon, if you want a plus bike, get the Fuel. The bottom bracket will be almost an inch too low if you put regular 27.5 tires on a plus bike. There are also plenty of other good bikes in the 140/150mm 27.5 category, like the Giant Trance.

I also looked at Giant Trance but I don't like the front triangle design.
Will the boost make a big difference on 27.5 wheels ? Will they be more stiffer or just marketing ?

get the 5010, or if you want more travel, the Bronson

they both have 148 spacing. lifetime frame warranties, free pivot bearings for life, threaded bottom brackets, tons of positive reviews

this vid/ride compares them both... https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yVO4t_jY35w

Yes, is very nice but Santa Cruz Bronson is too much expensive.
My budget is around 2200 euro. I can get Trek for a better deal on my local bike shop.
I hope Canyon will drop the prices more.
