    Shimano M618 15mm Front Hub

    Hey Everyone!

I am looking to be building up some wheelsets for the budget-minded mountain biker this holiday season I want to be able to make a wheelset that is both affordable and durable. I was thinking about pairing the high-torque Shimano 629 rear hub (affordable and durable) with the Shimano M618 15mm as the front hub.

I know front hubs are pretty hard to mess up, so that is where my question lies.

Has anyone had any experience with the 618 hub?

    Thanks and Happy Holidays.

Yes, it has given me no issues at all in the last year (laced it to an Inferno 31). Great hub.

Edit: realized I have the SLX version of that hub. They are all constructed in a similar manner so I'm sure it is just a bomb proof. Also, They are cup and cone hubs, so eventually (probably will be a while) you should know how to adjust them properly (though it might be a few years).

I am surprised that no one else on the forum has chimed in. I am pretty sure you are not the only rider with that hub

I got the slx one but don't have any thing else to add. its a front hub..... it spins and doesn't have side to side play

So as far as components go shimano is your best friend for durable and inexpensive.

I could tell you I beat the **** out of it and never had any problems. But then again I beat the sit outa all my front hubs and never had any problems
