Redline XCD500 Mountain Wheelset - How Wide? / How Strong?
Redline XCD500 Mountain Wheelset $120 + shipping
What is the width of these wheels? A google search indicates 23.9mm, but I don't know if that is the inside or outside measurement. I'm guessing outside, which would make them about 18mm wide. Anyone know for sure?
Definately not light:
• Front: 1,000 grams
• Rear: 1,300 grams
Anyone know how tough these are? What kind of bearings do they have? No info at the redline website or any reviews here at mtbr...
I have a set
Yes, they are cheap and yes, they are heavy. The rear hub is very quiet. Most high quality hubs are loud (more teeth engaging). I am not impressed with the front hub either. The spacers that fit the bearings float until the axle is inserted. I don't know who manufactures the hubs. I say all of this, but they have yet to cause me any problems. The reason I bought them was I needed some wheels in a hurry and didn't have a lot of cash laying around. The rims are Alex TD17 disc, by my measurments. The print on the side of the rim is an exact match to my measurements. The 23.9 is the outside measurement. The rims weigh around 505g per the Alex website. Check out the Alex site for yourself, http://www.alexrims.com/ They are plenty strong for the money. I had to re-dish them a little and true them before I rode. I put them on an '05 Giant Reign in November. The only real complaint is, I couldn't get them to work tubless with a strip and stan's. For this reason, I will be building some new wheels soon and selling these. This is my bike post # 109 on 11-19-06, http://forums.mtbr.com/showthread.php?t=141219&page=3 .
They are not bad wheels, just cheap.
