Older Heckler - keep or upgrade?
I have a 99-02 Vintage Heckler, with LX Hollowtech crank, Sram XO drive train, 426 Rev fork, RP23 shock, XT hubs, Hayes Elcamino 6" discs.
I have the urge for a newer ride, I see a Fezzari for $2.5K or a used 11 Yeti AS5 roughly the same price. Will I notice a real difference in overall bike riding experience over my Heckler? The Heckler is well maintenance and tight.
go to the santa cruz website...they are blowing out heckler frames for $550 - $600.
build up a newer version if you really like the ride.
Figures they are out of the 6.2 size frame in my size.
How about the question of a 02 vs. a 12 frame - can the difference really be felt with same components?
Email them or call them. I never owned one.
not so sure you can use all your old parts....
I´d say that it depends on your riding skills.
If you really ride your bike as a mountain bike on proper trails, you´ll probably notice quite a big performance gain in the whole package.
That means updated geometry, better brakes and an adjustable seatpost, tubeless tires, better stiffness etc.
But only if you upgrade the whole "system".
If your ride is still in really good shape and you don´t dislike anything - KEEP it.
As much fun can be had on an older design ...
Most fun bike I ever owned was a blinged 2003 Heckler! =)
