    Next Bike, Opinions please....

2009 Trek 6500, showroom condition, barely ridden, 26" Hardtail, all stock except derailluers where swapped from the low end deore to the Deore XT's. Guy is asking 500.00, It MSRP'd for 1129.00, I can probably get it for 400.00 hopefully less. All my other bikes are 2002 or older. I am still planning on getting myself a spankin new 29er later this summer but I want a better 26" than my current Specialized which I'll give my son and get him off his Mongoose crap. thoughts please.

If it's hydraulic disc and the Tora fork, I'd pay $400 for it. Trek hardtails are good bikes. If it's cables and an RST fork I'd pay probably $300 for it.

Are you set on buying a Trek?

    How tall are you?

I am partial to Trek but not devoted, I currently have 1 Trek, 1 Specialized and 2 Giants in my garage. My 93 Hybrid has been through hell and held up thats why I'm slightly partial. It has a 23" frame, I'm 6'1" tall. The 2011 HiFi plus NOS I've been eyeballing is a 23" frame as well, trying to decide between that or a cobia for a 29er. I really dont need full suspension on the hifi but its been marked down to the same price. Some 17.5 " frames I can ride ok and most 19" frames fit me fine. I'm just looking for a better riding 26" as well. When all is said and done I'm hoping to have my hybrid, a decent 26" a brand new 29er. I have my reason for wanting both. LOL

Any interest in my super clean 2011 Salsa El Mariachi? I'd branch out beyond the big box companies, if possible. It's more fun.

Well I wasn't planning on spending more than 400 for a used 26 and my budget is 13-1400 for a 29er. I think your bike retailed for 34-3500? I know your not gonna come down that much. LOL

At 6'1" I can't even imagine riding a 23" frame. That'd be a dang boat!! Killer deal or not buy a bike that fits.

It fits ok, My 23" I've barely got the seat up at all. This one its up about 4-5 inches. Only thing I'd have to do is swap the stem out to bring it up and back a little. I just wanted everyones opinion before I spent dough. Even though I do all my own wrench turning I haven't bought a new bike in oer 15 years. I gotta learn how to work on disc brakes. Everything else is about the same work wise just gotta keep up on axle differences, hub diffs etc...., First integrated fork I saw I was like huh?? What? :|

I had a trek hard tail and it was awesome. I took that thing to the limits. I was in the same situation as you and I paid around $300. $$$$ well spent. Go for it!
