    New bike time...but torn, XM8 vs Trance 27.5 1

The time has come to replace/upgrade my ride. I was pretty dead set on the Trance 27.5 1 until I came across a screaming deal on a very lightly used Marin Mount Vision XM8.

Please excuse my ignorance of kit, and I'm kind of just thinking out loud here, but it seems to me that these bikes are roughly equivalent in terms of components. The XM8 is mostly XT parts where the Trance is SLX; but the Trance brings with it the 27.5 format, Talas in place of Float (not sure that's better), newer design, warranty and that "new bike smell".

Now, that said...my current ride is a Genesis Saber 2600 I got from Walmart to beat to death in order to make sure I love this sport. I do and I realize that either of these rigs is a MAJOR improvement. I demo'd a Trance 27.5 3 last week and nearly bought it on the spot, but I'd like to have the air suspension but the $1500 price jump is tough to digest.

I ride in the Phoenix area, Hawes, South Mountain, McDowell, San Tan, etc. I'm at the advanced beginner stage (my assessment) and am still relatively fearless but lack some confidence. I ride at least 3 times per week.

    Thoughts, comments...flames...

Isn't the XM8 a 26"? Do you prefer the feel of the 27.5?

Well see that's part of the conundrum...I loved the 27.5, no doubt. It felt like a tractor climbing and in the rocks. I'm just not sure it's worth another grand and a half...that's what I really have to convince myself of...

I hate to admit it, but I'm short...and feel really awkward on 29ers. I rode a Camber and a Diamondback and they just "feel" huge to me...not sporty and nimble.

it sounds to me like in this case if money is a concern at all just get the xm8. Plus, if you think 27.5 feels slow in really technical areas don't even bother with it, thats what I'm doing

    What year is the XM8?
I don't crash, I just have slightly uncontrolled dismounts!

It's a 2013...but, as luck would have it, it's all moot now.

Look what followed me home lastnight...

Thanks! I'm very pleased with the bike! I had the LBS do a Stans conversion before I even left the shop. It's a medium frame and now weighs 30.6 pounds.
