motobecane and dawes?

hello people im in the market for my first mountain bike~ im on a very tight budget tho...... is motobecane and dawes a good brand? they seem to have good prices.... very new to biking so any info would be very appreciated.... looking for a front suspension mtb thats not wal mart quality><

I just bought a Dawes Haymaker 1500 and have had it for a week. I never heard of the brand, but it had a few good points like comparable Shimano parts, double-walled rims, and an entry-level fork. I am a clyde (maybe more of a bear, but thats for another time and place) and this seemed like a good deal for me (bought for $400) to get back into biking. I have only ridden on the road and one hard-packed trail so far, and all has held up.

I did some research, and found out that the Dawes sold in the US is not the same Dawes from the UK (which is the more reknown brand). So, I would also like to know if this brand is decent. Nonetheless, I am gonna ride it and try to maintain it as best as I can.

i know motobecane is pretty good. a pretty basic frame hung with nice parts sold direct to the consumer for cheap.
