    Khs xct-525

Is the KHS XCT-525 more of a heavy duty XC bike, or is it an all mountain bike? Also, what do you guys think think of the xct-525? I'm looking at a used one in my area for $800.

Do you have pics of it? KHS bikes are typically pretty good depending on the year it was sold...but they are what we call "catalog" frames. Every few years they choose a completely different suspension design and brand it with khs. A lot of companies do this and it's nothing to frown about or negative in any way. I deal with khs to purchase my parts at wholesale and can talk to my sales rep about that exact model. He will give me an honest review on the bike since he has been selling them for years. PM me if interested. It's just really hard to find info on non current khs bikes and always nice to hear it from the source.

I am running a 2009 KHS XCT-525 that I've bought as a frame only. The frame is excellent, but the stock forks and some of the components on the complete bike are okay not great. It has proven to be a tough bike, I was over 265 and not hover around 220 ish @ just shy of 6.0'. IT's been a great bike so far.

    I am running:
    XCT 525
    Fox RP2
    Manitou Minute Pro 140mm
    Truvativ 9-speed cranks
    10 Speed shifters/chain/cassette/rear derailleur
    Intense tires front and rear.

    Here is a photo:

That's actually an 09' The 08 had a different rear triangle and was a brown grey, I have and 08' as well. The add states hydros, but those look to be the stock Avid BB5's, hard to be 100% from the photo though. It seems okay for the price, better if you can haggle a bit. KHS has the archives on the website:

I'm.hoping that cold hard cash speaks well enough.to get him down to $600ish. Also, the site said the bike.is an XC.bike, but I've seen most people use.it as an AM bike. What doyou think of the bike? I can't seem to find any reviews.

I wouldn't pay 800. It's 5 years old, and was only 1400 new. try to get it closer to 600 or 500 if possible

It's a 5 inch trailbike, XC's of that time were the XC-104 - 604 and had a smidge over 4" of rear travel. There are some reviews out there, search for XCT-535 or XCT-555, they are the same frame but differ in component spec. the 09/10 used that frame, 08 is different but not by much and 11-12 were XCT-536/XCT-556 and are definitely different. One of the review I found stated the KHS downhill team used them for 4X or light downhill races when they did not need a big rig, so I'd say it's pretty tough.

Bike prices went crazy over the past few years, at one time you could buy that frame new for $299, now folks want much more. I'd see if you could get closer to $600 for it.

OR, if you are willing to be patient and you have the 800 to spend or maybe 1000, wait and really scan all the classifieds and other sites. There are certainly gems to be found and you could probably get a better, and newer bike if you wait.
