I need your help! Used Giant Trance x3 2012 for 1500$?

Hey guys I found a Giant Trance X3 2012 (seems in pretty good conditions going to see it in person soon). He is selling it for 1500$
I want to know is this a good deal? It's 2250$ new.

P.S. I know the brakes are not that great I have them on my current bike and might switch them with XT.

    These are the specs:
    Trance X3 (2012) - Bikes | Giant Bicycles | United States

Frame ALUXX SL-Grade Aluminum, 5" Maestro Suspension
    Fork Fox 32 F125RL Evolution w/ 15QR Thru-Axle and OverDrive Steerer, 125mm Travel
    Shock Fox FLOAT R
    Shifters SRAM X5, 3x10 Speed
    Front Derailleur Shimano Deore
    Rear Derailleur SRAM X7
    Brakes Avid Elixir 1, [F] 180mm, [R] 160mm
    Brake Levers Avid Elixir 1
    Cassette SRAM PG 1030 11x36, 10-Speed
    Chain SRAM PC1031
    Crankset Shimano Deore, 24/32/42
    Bottom Bracket Shimano Press Fit
Hit it first, then we can see where to put the landing.

Bicycle Blue Book has it valued at $1200. Listing Detail - Bicycle Blue Book

Depending on condition, you can make your offer accordingly but $1500 seems a little high. I'm sure you can work something out for less, unless dude is super firm on his price.

Too steep a price IMO. You won't have the warranty, and I know everyone is wheeling and dealing now. Bring him $1200 cash and show it to him, I bet he takes it. I wouldn't pay more though.

Yes he said if something happen to the bike to just contact him so if I have the "warranty" is 1500$ that much?

my LBS has a new 2013 Trance X3 on sale for $1349 (cdn), so check your nearest Giant dealer to see what their prices are.

Not sure if the specs changed from '12 to '13 but still I would not pay $1500 for that used bike.

Guys the 2013 is lower specs than the 2012! The 2013 is worth 1500$ new, the 2012 is 2250$!

I would do like the other poster said and bring $1200 cash. You could even print out that Bicycle Blue Book page and bring it with you to bust out if he won't go for it.

One thing to consider.. I've had to beat this in my head for years now. Whatever you do, sleep on the decision! Make sure you really think it out. Don't jump at a deal you think is too good to pass up. If it's not there tomorrow then the bike wasn't meant for you. The deal wasn't meant to be.

Another thing to consider.. My regular riding buddy, the one who's got that Trance I was telling you about.. He paid $2000.00 for his. Alex has the one that's has SLX drivetrain and Elixir 5 brakes. I think it's the Trance 1 maybe. Alex bought it new from our LBS. I really think you can do better.

Just keep looking for that bike that really is too good to pass up. For example, I purchased a Devinci Dixon frame for $1000.00 shipped to my door. I built the Dixon up with one rule.. Buy everything new for half price. I shopped Amazon, Pinkbike and other online bike shops. I ended up only getting my Fox 34 for 20% off and I paid 20% off MSRP for my Chromag handlebars and stem too. I did however get my Chromag Lynx saddle for half off. I easily could have got these components cheaper if I didn't get Chromag.

Good luck finding your new bike!

I think its too much. I just sold my 2011 Trance X3 with Shimano SLX shifters/derailer, same fox 32 fork with 15mm through axle, etc, in perfect condition, for $1250. I cleaned my bike after every trial ride.

That thing looks pretty used and abused.

Early last year (2012) I bought an '11 Trance X2 in way better condition than that bike... and I paid $1500. I think his price is a bit high... but not a wtf is that guy smokin' price.

I would not pay $1500 for that bike. Judging from the pictures that bike has been beat for 2012 model. I rather save up for something new/better.

My buddies bike is a TranceX 2. I checked it out last night and it's got XT shifters, rear derailleur and rear hub. SLX cranks and Elixer 5 brakes. He got it from an LBS for a little less than 2 grand out the door. Sorry for the misinformation!

Isn't the end of season sales goin start soon?

For that price I'd expect it to be a lot cleaner of a bike. I have an '11 ridden constantly and its a lot cleaner than his. I agree bikes are going to be scratched and what not over use but they way that one is, it looks as though he just didn't care for it very much. First thing on the Trance is that it has zero chainstay protection, before my first ride I threw something on there so I wouldn't eat away at it. Think about all of the other components, fork serviced yet, shock serviced, new chain, bearings serviced ever? Something to think about because if that hasn't been done you're going to be stuck with all of that. I don't mind when the bike gets dirty and scratched but I do what I can to protect my investment. Ultimately its your call but I definitely think that bike is a $1200 bike.
