New question here. How good are BB mounted chainguards, tensioners?

I want to install a chain tensioner and posibly a bashguard on my 2008 Giant Reign. all Giants except the big boys, have no ISCG mounts therefore I have to go for a BB mounted system.

    I found a gamut:
    http://www.bikebling.com/Gamut-Dual-...hainguide.htm:

but I could save some bucks if I go for this combo:
    http://www.bikebling.com/Blackspire-...-tensioner.htm
    and
    http://www.bikebling.com/Blackspire-...-bashguard.htm

still i dont know if these can be mounted without problems on a reign.

    any opinions?

I haven't had any problems mounting mine. Sometimes you just have to play with the spacing on the chain line

I did the Blackspire for my 2007 Enduro and no problem. I haven't hit any rock on it yet, but I'd imagine if I hit a rock hard enough right on the tensionser, it might cause the tensioner to spin out. But that is ok because i rather have it spin out of place than have it stuck deak on the frame where the forces will be transferred. The forces has to go somewhere! Besides, the tensioner is protected by the bashguard somewhere too. So I'm not too worried.

I put a Blackspire stinger on my wife's Giant Reign 09. I had to do a offset bend to the bracket to get it in line with the chain. No big deal really. But it does sit below the bashguard and it gets hit from time to time and it does move. I cannot move it further up because the chainstay blocks it. If the chain-guide gets hit, It gets pushed up into the chainstay and the chain will start to gouge it. So keep an eye on it.

I'd just get a stinger and a plastic bashguard, plastic because it slides over rocks better... wormvine is right, it'll rotate up and into your chainstay, which is a pita. Next frame iscg tabs are a requirement...

The Gamut is the best bb mount guide I've tried. Their roller is super super smooth and quiet and well worth the money. It has never moved on me.

just want to add that Blackspire tensioner uses the famous Enduro bearings. Smooth. Makes almost no sound.

And like Wormvine, I also had to bend the tensioner arm a little bit to get it line with the chain and to allow good shifting of the chain too. However I still can't get the roller to be in perfect line with the chain, and because of this, in certain gears, when I pedal BACKWARD, the chain may drop on the front from middle to granny ring. But I don't usually pedal backward, so it's not as a big deal.

Very interested in this thread, as I'm keen to get a chain tensioner too. Can I ask what is the best 1x9 or 1x10 chain guide? I like the look of both the stinger and the Gamut. Was previously thinking about a MRP Lopes, but would prefer a bash, and be a bit easier on the wallet.
