how big of a tire on a 2013 giant reign

I do a lot of downhill riding and my stock 2.25 nobby nics arnt cutting it thinking about going 2.4 up front and 2.35 in the rear. Any one have this bike that have experimented with larger tires. Any help would be great. Most my lbs don't carry larger tires so I would have to order online. Ty

Are you asking if those tires will fit? The front would for sure, the rear, probably. I mean, heck, they're stuffing a 2.35 on the rear of the '14 Trance SX, which is the reason they aren't making the Reign anymore. It sounds like a legit setup.

It depends on the specific tire. You can fit 2.5 Minion DHFs on the Reign without problem, but a 2.4 Ardent will be pushing the triangle's clearance. The 2.5 Minions are around a 2.35-2.4 in most other brands. I rode them for 2.5 years and they were about as wide as I would want to go. I felt they were perfect for that bike; not too narrow, but not 'hey look at me being super awesome' fat.

I was actually looking at the minion. Very good reviews. I got a bontrager g4 2.35 on the front for now. I diced up my nobby nic last ride. The g4 will go on back and hopefully the minion up front. Thank you

I have the same bike and the same question. My rear nobby nic is barely hanging onto it's centre lugs. A couple more rides and I'm sure they will all sheer off. I was thinking of going Similar sizing as the OP. Is a 2.5 not a bit much for XC though? I'm a big guy (280) so a wide tire might be helpful for me. I could care less about rolling resistance.

Get a 2.35 and put it up front first it is so much more mm grippy then the nic. If you like it and it climps good for you get the 2.5 and put the 2.35 on the back. Two 2.5s might be overkill.
