HELP!: RS Pike 409 vs 454... Deal? What do you think???
Ok, so i`m going to Argentina in a couple of weeks and since 20mm hub 120+mm forks are WAY too hard to find in my country (i`m from Uruguay) i might as well take advantage of the trip and iīve been lookin for a good fork to buy when i`m there.
Narrowed it down to 2 options:
1.- This Pike 409 U-turn 95-140mm:
Itīs used but according to seller it has been regularly serviced and works perfectly. Price is 400 usd w/20mm hub included (Formula hub).
2.- This Pike 454 Air U-turn 110-140mm:
This guy wants 600 usd for the fork only (brand new i think). I know itīs expensive, but this is in South America, these are not common here and buying one from ebay might cost me more expensive due to custom fees. The guy includes a good 20mm hub (hope or similar).
The point is that this guy plays guitar and i`m selling one, the guy takes it from me plus 300 usd for the fork or the guitar plus 380 usd for the fork and 20mm hub.
I think iīm pretty much decided for the 409 but what iīm asking is: if is it really worth it to give this guy a guitar plus 380 usd for the Pike 454 instead of paying 400 usd for the Pike 409 and keep the guitar?

This fork will be a major upgrade from the 120mm Suntour XCR i have now:
I mean... is a pike 454 THAT more expensive than a 409?
No, the 454 has an aluminum steerer (vs steel for the 409) so it will be lighter but not worth the $200 difference. I'd look for a Revelation or even a Sektor instead tho!

Thanks dude! Didnīt think it would be 200 usd worth a difference. Revs and Sektors do not exist here unless already mounted on bikes lol
The 454 is an air, but what is the 409? I would think the major decision is if you want an air fork or a coil fork. If the 409 is coil, make certain you have the correct spring rate coil for you. If only the 454 is air and you want air, then your decision is made.
Also, one is used and one is new? The $200 difference might justify the difference between the two.
Not certain I understand the guitar/hub/fork interaction, but getting a different 20mm front hub that is Formula quality may not be that expensive (by your country standards). I guess it depends on the value of your guitar too, which I know nothing about.
Oh, and the reason I responded is that I am a big Pike fan. Bought one the first year they were out (coil uturn), and still riding it. I assume the quality hasn't decreased over the years.
