Help With Purchase. ***2009 Pivot Mach 5***

    Hey Everyone,

I'm new to the forum but have been doing a lots of research on it for the past month. I've owned 2 bikes in my life, a Mongoose Switchback (stolen) purchased when I was 15 (I'm now30) and and Ironhorse 1.3 I just walked into a D!cks and purchased 5 years ago b/c it was on sale and I needed a bike. Didn't know squat about sizing (it was too small), or bikes in general and still don't.

I found a seller and was looking for feedback on if this is a good deal or not@ $1550. Plan on picking this up Saturday.

First thing: Anyone know what the base model of the Pivot Mach 5 is? Found a site that prices used bikes but am uncertain what model this is, whether XT, SLX ect. Establishing the base will help determine the minimum price

What do I need to look for when inspecting the bike for damage or any other important questions to ask the seller?

The Mach 5 hasn't been made in a while. The Mach 5.7 replaced it a couple years ago. The Mach 5 frame alone would have retailed for $2k or so. I suspect some of the components are newer than the frame. Check frame for dings and dents and the suspension linkages and make sure they cycle (move) freely. Ask if pivots/bearings have been serviced etc. also what model year is the fork? how worn sre tge chainrings and cassette? if all is in great shape I'd say $1500 is a decent price.

As to the build up, it sure looks like that bike had the SLX package which would retail lower than a full XT component group.
