Help finding a new west coast mountain bike

Hey everyone. I Currently own a 2011 Norco A-line and have decided to purchase a second more practical bike to ride the west coast trails at a more leisure pace with friends and family. I was originally thinking the giant anthem would be a good bike but I am unsure whether 100mm of travel is enough, especially coming from a bike with 9 inches of rear travel.
I have looked at the trance and reign as well. I like the trance as it is a good middle ground of heading up easily and coming down fast. The reign would be my favorite on the trail but i don't know how much i trust its climbing abilities. I am open to any opinions for a bike as i am really unsure of a good compromise.
I plan to buy my bike from Craigs or nsmb with a budget of around 1600$
    Thanks to everyone in advance

    Hey, Welcome to the boards . . . .

So uhhhh, "West Coast" could be anything from somewhere in Southern Chile up through Northern Alaska . . . perhaps a little more specifics would be beneficial?

    Do you want a 26", 27.5" or perhaps a 29er?
Alcohol may lead nowhere, but it sure is the scenic route!

Oh sorry by West coast i meant the Vancouver area. mt. Fromme, Seymour, Burnaby mountain etc..

as for the 26 vs 650d vs 29er. i really couldn't say. i don't do huge amounts of technical climbs so 29 may not have much of a point for me. though there may be other reasons to get a 29er that may effect my desicion.

would a hardtail be a good idea. I'm thinking i will still be riding some rougher terrain just not at the same speed as with my DH bike (sorry i didn't give that detail before). Any thoughts on the 2010 kona cadabra. i like the idea of the magiclink suspension and there is one on my local craigslist for within my price range.

I ride a Giant Reign that I have built up quite light, I have a few friends that ride Trance X's, all in 26. They climb like crazy! I ride in AZ so I am either going up or down, this bike does both very well. Good luck in your quest.

Vancouver XC = All Mountain everywhere else.
I'll second the Reign as a good choice. The Trance climbs a little better but IMO the slacker Reign is more fun in the PNW (I have both).

I have to disagree. Yes you can climb with both bikes but it'll be much harder with the Nomad.
