I own a 2008 Spec Enduro Comp, and I'm considering either A) removing my largest chainring and adding an e13 (or comparable) bash guard, or B) converting the entire front drivetrain to a Hammer Schmidt setup. Do any of you All-Mountain riders have experience/helpful feedback with this?
No long term feedback yet, but do have a 1st ride report. See the link in this thread. My 1st ride report is post #21 (most of the other posts are specific to the Knolly Delirium and should not be applicable to the Enduro). The HS became available in the US on the 15th of January (in limited quantities I believe) so there are not going to be any long term reports.
The HS did replace my E13 DRS which was decent. It does have a lot of plastic which can brake (I had to replace the lower assembly one time after 10 months of use) but other than that it was a good product.
It's those 3 tabs on downhill bikes on the right side of the bottom bracket used for mounting a chain guide. The hammer install videos and info are very clear that either 03 or 05 iscg tabs are required.
They are chain guide mounting tabs welded to the bb shell, I don't believe your enduro has them but I could be wrong. You can't put on the Hammer without iscg tabs.
OK then, that was quite helpful, thank you. So plan B would be to put on an e13 bash guard or a Stylo 2.2... Any thoughts? What changing the ring sizes?

I started out with a stylo 3.3 team when I built up my BMC. However, I ended up swapping out the 44T ring with a bash guard.
Personally, I like having the option of going back to a 3 ring setup if I put the cranks on another frame. Going with the 2.2 you would have to buy another chainring to do that.
I recently went to 2 rings + bash on my '07 stumpjumper - HIGHLY recommend replacing the big ring w/a bash if you ride rocks, log crossings, etc. My setup is a race face evolve DH, so everything came together.
My primary benefit has been reduced stress in the rocks, over logs, etc. Since there's a little armour down there, you don't look at stuff & worry about hitting bottom. I was cleaning rock gardens that I couldn't ride previously after 1 or 2 rides with the revised setup.
My rings are 22, 32 & frankly I wouldn't mind having a 34 for the middle ring for a bit more oomph when needed

For the price of E13 guide/bash you can order a set of SLX cranks with bashguard. It will also include a much more useful 36t second ring. Complete it with a SLX 665/667 double ring specific front derailler.
If you do not really bash the bash guard, you can replace the 140g SLX bash with a 75g BBG bash for $12.
