    Yes...

the Trance series is a top rated trail bike, see recent reviews in MBAction and other magazines, and owners seem to love them. jc

I have an X2. It's a great all around bike. The Trance X series is a good value.

Giant Trance frames are all the same. its the component package that creates the price point.
I have test ridden a trance2 and it was a very impressive bike for the money. Pic what ya like and can afford. good stuff

the fork on the x4 is a low end Marzocchi. It was the only thing about my x4 that I didn't like.

Would the rock shox tora 302 be any better on the '10 version?

    Yea, the shock works fine.

The 302 is the lower end tora, its probably ok but nothing great, just like the Marzocchi.

How are the hydraulic brakes on the x4?

Get the trance, it's a sweet ride for the pricepoint. See if you can swap the tora 302 out for a 318 u-turn.

Just buy my large 09 X3 frameset (on ebay now) and build one up - you will not be disappointed - I think the trance x is one of the best trail bikes out there..maestro is the bomb

Its done the job for me, just set the sag right and upgrade as necessary. I haven't noticed any pedal bob from the rear, I credit that to the Maestro though. The fork, as mentioned, isn't the best -- but its durable. I'm looking to upgrade to a RS Pike once I have the ching-ching to do so. Can't you ask them to let you test ride it? You are spending $1400+... As for the fox suspension, they have a propensity to leak (from what I've read). If I were to race I'd use fox's products, but for everyday riding I think the general consensus is RS (Rockshox) is a better deal -- you can service them yourself.

So far so good, I might up the rotor size. I ride lots of fast steep stuff and I'm around 220, I've never noticed brake fade. I also have never ridden anything other than Juicy 3's, but I feel they are comparable. You won't get the easy adjustments that Juicy 5's have, but I haven't needed to tweak mine after ~300(?) miles.

Test riding is CLUTCCH. Trance line is a great deal -- whatever you pick you will be happy.

great bike if you're not too heavy. get the best shock you can get stock, as its not a standard size and you'll have quite a bit of trouble finding a replacement.

the maestro line is high end boutique bike quality, for cheap. if they fit you, and you're comfortable on them, you probably cant beat a giant.

If you are into all mountain I think a travel adjust 6" fork would be more fun.I have a trance x1 and the 140mm fork is more xc.Maybe a shop will upgrade you.
