Smile fork upgrade and noob qns

    Hi,

I'm pretty new to mountain biking and I just bought myself a 2009 Scott Voltage 1. I know it's a entry level dirt jump/street bike but I suppose I can use it for trail riding too right, haha. Anyway, I would like to upgrade my bike starting with the fork (it's a suntour XCM with preload 100mm travel). Can anyone advise me on what fork I should get and how I should go about it and stuff, I'm like a complete noob at all these biking terms etc so anyway, my budget's not very high cause I don't want to pay for a fork that would cost more than my bike itself so anyone that knows any good & decent forks to rec kindly let me know, thank you so much

P.S. I do not do any hardcore riding for now, basically trails and small steep slopes with pot holes and stuff, nothing extreme yet

you can only install a new or used

    100mm fork (and stuff ).

Here's the best I could find in a quick search: http://www.pricepoint.com/detail/183...map=315+MARD29

Ya, but that fork is almost as much as his bike.

That YZ1 looks pretty cool but at a $500 price point it sure comes with an absolute bunch of crap for components, at least the one I linked to . Unbelievable.

OP: I'd look at a Rock Shox Tora in the $200-$250 price range. This would be a huge upgrade from the Suntour. It has a real damping circuit with rebound/compression and lockout features. Anything less (like the Dart) and you will probably end up with a fork like you already have, meaning junk. Anything more I'm guessing is out of your budget, but you never did say what your budget was.

ok thanks all. The fox fork looks totally awesome but it's more expensive than my whole bike lol, think I'll get it only when I upgrade to a better bike or when I get more into the sport. ok I will check out more on the rockshox tora. How about the marzocchi dirt jumper 1 or 2, are they any good ? I don't currently have a budget, I'm just hoping to find a good fork that I can save up for. Is it worth it for me to upgrade to a Fox fork or is that not advisable ? thanks
