    Derailleur Advice!

Need help with new derailleur selection. I ride mostly AM, but have been riding downhill as well. Not gonna buy a DH rig just yet, as my Trek Remedy 8 seems capable enough at the moment.

Bike used to have Shimano Deore XT M780 Shadow derailleur. But snapped the cage off of that (riding downhill). Rest of drive train is Shimano.

    SLX Rings are 32/24
    XT Cassette is 11-36

My main question is should I just buy the same derailleur? Or can anyone recommend a sturdier/superior option. Ideally it would function adequately for both AM riding and downhill.

    How about the Shimano Saint?

I am almost positive that the saint/zee lines are short cage only which means you are out of luck unless you want to lose one of your chainrings. I would personally just get either the SLX(cheaper) or the XT(lighter) and try not to rip it off again.

    Honns,

Yeah, I kinda figured that's the response I would get.

    Now I'm contemplating going 1x10

What's the diff between Saint and Zee derailleur?

Nevermind! Just figured out Zee is the more affordable down hill stuff.

Bingo, I'm seriously considering the zee for my hardtail since it'll be 1x9/10. Should be a great match. You really cant go wrong either way. Saint sounds more expensive and lighter (a lot like XT) and the zee sounds a wee bit heavier and cheaper (a lot like SLX).

    Pick yer poison.

Why not just get an slx mid cage? Might tear it off again if you're riding burley stuff
