    crossmax 2007

I'm looking to upgrade my 2011 rockhopper wheels, are 2007 crossmax sl any good or should I get something more modern?

    Re: crossmax 2007

I have 2005 crossmax xl and they are doing great on my 2011 enduro. The only thing I don't like about them is by today's standards they are a bit narrow for the 2.4 inch tire I currently run.

Other than that, they are on their way to wearing out two all mountain bikes.

    I love them.

Ok, I would love to get a more modern wheel but not sure if it's worth the extra money and these are a good price

Good wheelset. A bit narrow - but you will barely notice it. The only pain is the rear freehub....which requires service every 90 hours of riding.

Every 90 hours , that's every 6 months for me. Been riding for 2 years with my original wheels and they're still fine, just heavy

Wait until you remove the freehub. It's going to be a big mess...

    Re: crossmax 2007

I've owned my 2005 xl's for 4 years now and just recently had to replace free body. Bearings a while back.

    crossmax 2007

The bushing in the freehub wears out. You can get them on eBay for like $12 and it takes about 5 minutes to replace them. Hardly a concern. I've been liking my Crossmax ST wheels that I bought used. Nice and light and very stiff/strong for the weight.

I bought a used pair for about the same price this spring. As mentioned, they are a bit narrow if you run 2.4 tires (but they still mount up no problem). I bought a Mavic spoke wrench just in case, and have really abused mine in the last six months. Broke one spoke, which costs about $8 on ebay. Maybe my favorite non-dh wheelset.

    Go for it.

I've come across a problem with crossmax, the brake caliper (avid elixer) touches the spokes

Mine have clearance (Elixr R's)... But I just noticed/remembered - I have the SX, not the SL...

I used this on a 2007 crossmax rim. This gets rid of the cheap plastic bushing. Worth ever dime.

The owner never contacted me so I found a pair of 2010 crossmax wheels for 300. Are these a good buy?

    Flipdewalvis,
They 2010 Crossmax should have an IT'S-4 free hub body on them. You can tell the difference because it's silver aluminum vs. grey steel on the older versions. The new system has faster engagement and eliminates a lot of the maintainence issues of the previous system. You should be very happy with this wheelset!

The photo shows what looks like an aluminium coloured body. Thanks for the info
