    Crankset... 170mm? or 175mm?

What is the best and does it make a big difference? Im 5/9 and it is going on an AM bike.

Go 170mm, I just did and I'm 5'8" with 30 inseam. Feels the same but hit less stuff or at least it helps. Get the SLX cranks (Double version) stronger than XT by 100% and 950grams

You'll get lots of opinions on this. The only general observation I have on it is that 170mm cranks can work well for people who have a strong bias for reducing pedal smack and like to spin instead of mash. Power pedalers who like a powerful, slower cadence are usually drawn to longer cranks. People are different. Their physiology and even just plain preference can vary greatly. Some think 170mm cranks are only for DH/FR bikes. It's not as black-and-white as that. I'm 6' tall with a 32" inseam and prefer 170mm cranks on my AM/trail bikes. A couple of guys in our riding group have180mm cranks.

You could probably go either way. Your inseam is the more relevant measurement for this, not your height. What TNC said about preferences is true as well.

    I'm 6'4" w/ 35" inseam and run 170mm cranks, no issue. Personally, I don't really feel a dif between 175 & 170's.
