Confused by choice of full suspension frames!

My current MTB's are all hardtails (26/29) and I was searching for an all-mountain (full suspension) frame. I am very confused by the many different models. There are at least four different types of linkage, three wheel sizes and many other things to choose from. I would really like to build a bike myself and was wondering is someone can give advise on a frame with the following specs:
    - aluminum
    - light
    - suitable for European mountains (i.e. Alps)
    - available as frame only
    - affordable (i.e. less than $1200 for the frame)
I am 187cm long, so I does need to be a tall frame. i have however not decided on wheel size yet...

Heckler new version or old? or something from Giant like a Reign. those are the closest to that price range.

Giant Reign? or Giant Reign X? I don't know the price but this would fit your riding!
Hit it first, then we can see where to put the landing.

My hubby built one up with a 170 Lyrik, the bike weighs 30lbs and is a blast to ride.

    Hej Spikes!
This post is a bit old, but my 2 cents worth .
Hard tails are the prefered bike for very moutainous regions (Alps), unless you find a fully shocked bike that totally locks out the shock for your severe climbs...
The Swedish mountains I ride are good for fully shocked, but riding the Birkenbiner in Norway really made me realize, from many comments from the Norweigens, that Hard tails are prefered for the steep climbing!
    Good luck!

motochick good call had forgoten about the El Guapo (Low BB issues aside and all its a great frame)

bikeblr disagree nothing beats a FS bike for steep climbing on rugged terrain.

I love my hardtails and own several. For certain areas I would really like to go all moutain as those trails were just way too scary/dangerous on a hardtail. But yeah, most of the time those are prefered.
