BB7's have adjustments for both inboard and outboard pads. This keeps power ramped up. When you hit your brakes, you don't want the rotors to flex to meet the pads. They'll both be the same the first couple rides, but the non-adjustability will quickly start to show. For a few bucks more, spring for BB7's. If you can swing a few bucks on top of that, spring for 8" up front, and either 7 or 8 inch out back.
There's also better surface area for the BB7 pads, offering better power, modulation, and heat dissipation. The difference is certainly noticeable.
what do you think you will end up paying for BB7s? If you are even a bit resrouceful you will surprise yourself with what you can get good hyrdro brakes for

Yeah, you can get used hydros for super cheap, but BB7's are already cheap and are wicked-awesome brakes compared to most hydros. They are the absolute bottom line best bang for the buck new brake you can buy.
Look for last years LX brakes on the web. You can get em new for really cheap. Bang for the buck is amazing.. with good pads and rotors they wont let you down.
not much difference in the bb5 and bb7 imo besides the adjustibility feature which is nice since mechanicals are self adjusting... But, if you can, i'd sell the Bb5s and get a set of used hydros... much much worth it...
