    Black Market Roam

    Anyone have one, ride one? I can't seem to find many(if any) online reviews. Considering replacing my SC Nickel with something lower & slacker...

    The guys at Bear Creek in Ashland ride and sell them and would give you honest feedback, give them a call. Also check out Banshee (they also sell those), love their bikes as they've pioneered low and slack!

    Have FUN!

    Fuglio,i actually might star with 29 front and 27.5 in the back.Trying to decide at the moment.I will over time do 29/29 and 27/27.Probably won't do the 26 thing as i have been riding those since the mid 80's.I also might change wheel sizes depending on where i ride.Looking forward to it for sure.

    I like the adjustability of it, but $2k for a frame with unproven suspension and no shock is far too steep.
    Gotta get up to get down.

    I am really enjoying this bike, I got it as my "do it all" and so far I have no regrets. The bike climbs great with very little pedal bob. In fact I was out on a group ride the other day, and a friend of mine wanted to try and climb with it. He is an xc rider only who has never been on a 6in travel bike, and the first thing he said when he got to the top was that he could not get over how little bob the bike had. I have my drievtrain set up 1x10 with a 30t wolftooth,11/36 rear.
    Since I sold my DH bike I wanted something I could still use at the bike park. So for suspension I am using the 2014 Vivid air and a Lyrik DH set at 170mm. I only have a few park days on this bike, but it jumps well and keeps up with the bigger bikes in the rough just fine. Granted it's no 8in travel race bike, but I don't race so its a good fit for me at the moment.
    I am using 26in wheels for now, but I plan on playing around with other wheels sizes in the near future.

    Thanks for the report, looking forward to hearing more about the bike.

    Can you compere it to any other AM bike you might have ridden?

    I was using a Specialized Enduro before this bike. With the Enduro I always had to run high air pressure in the rear to get it to pedal well. Even with the high psi I always felt the bike would really wallow in its travel. Don't get me wrong Specialized makes a good bike in fact I still own a couple of their bikes. I have just been really happy with the way the Roam rides, it just feels really solid which I like because I am about 190 and tend to be hard on equipment.

    It's odd that some photos of the Roam frame have a different type of top tube than in the photo posted in this thread. I really like the straight tt with seat brace. I'm surprised there has been so little about the Roam online. There's another one I've seen on the Ridemonkey forum (maybe the same?)...

    I think the different tt's were on the first generation Roam. I have seen the bike you are talking about on Ridemonkey, the only thing that's the same is the color of the frame.

    Black Market 2011: The new ROAM - Page 3

    Here's the photo of Roam with straight top tube & seat brace. If B.M. would do a Roam for a 140mm fork, I'd be seriously considering replacing my Evil Sovereign. 160mm is just too much for what I ride regularly.

    What dhmatt posted is the FIRST gen Roam. The other ones could be prototypes and bikes that are labelled wrongly only.

    Your right, I guess I should have said the earlier frames were prototypes. I thought saying first generation would have been clear enough. Here is a link to Blackmarket's blog with some talk of the PROTOTYPE frame that has the curved top tube. You have to scroll down to about mid page to see the Roam info.

    had bought a Roam recently.

    Gonna build it up using my HT parts at most.
    Black Market Roam-p1030922.jpg
    That means it will have 140mm at front / 26'' wheels.

    I'll post it here after completion.

    Hello there!
    well, some updates are here...

    i didn't yet finish that build due some other tasks, but it's quite close to completion.

    will shot a couple of photos tomorrow and now just some words that bores... ))

    Setup is like that:
    BM Roam frame, M size;
    Marzocchi 44 rc3ti fork, 140mm, 2010 MY;
    X-fusion O2 RLX shock, 165/38 (120 mm travel);
    Nukeproof wheelset 2011 MY;
    Raceface Chester cranks, 170mm;
    Avid Juicy 7;
    Sunline V1 hi-riser, 745mm;
    Nukeproof stem, saddle, grips;
    Dabomb All-in-one headset (great one, total set:55 and 56mm lower, race crown for straight and tapered steerer, upper 44mm)

    for the transmission: there goes some troubles!
    shifters are sram x9 9spd;
    rear: XT 786 mech sh+ and 11-32 SLX 9spd cassette;
    front: now 36/22. and the point is front der! XT 786 direct mount

    1: frames' mount was wider than der, so i had to file it a bit.
    2: tried to set der on place, but cracked a bolt in a frame. a hole had depth less than a bolt! lost 2 weeks waitin' it from service;
    3: now i got my bike from service. they drilled a big hole! . but the der still can't be installed properly as it seems to give wrong chainline (too far from granny ring and also contacts a rear triangle). so, maybe i can change chainline by BB re-installation, but what should i do with triangle confrontation?
    will try to illustrate it tomorrow.
    seems that BM forcing me to use single front ring setup

    Cheers!

    Hey Logoffski
    Did you ever get that Roam built? I'm wondering how tall you are and how the Med fits. I'm considering getting one for park riding.

    Hi guyz,
    'm kinda slowpoke as did not post my BM Roam yet.
    here it goes:
    Black Market Roam-bm-roam_rearview_one.jpgBlack Market Roam-bm-roam_sideview_two.jpg
    that's initial build, had tried to set up 2*9 transmission with 104/64 triple cranks.
    failed (it seems Carter Holland didn't checked such option so i gad chainline issues).

    now it has 1*10 shimano drivetrain (34x11-36), and 140/120 suspension.
    Gonna grow it to a 160/160 up to next season

    and yeah, it rides great! as any first full-sus bike

    Black Market bikes is a US brand. They're not common but you can get them. I believe you can order direct from their website. They don't sell complete bikes, just frame only and you build how you want it. Here's the Roam

    I stand corrected. This must be a new thing for them as they didn't sold complete when I was looking in the past.
