Anyone running 1X11 riding S Mtn National, Phx regularly? Thoughts?

Putting together a Bronson, debating 2X10 with chain guide or 1X11. I need climbing power on National type climbs and don't know if I might lose any climbing power, losing the 22, 24 small chainring and going with a 30, 32 chainring. Price not a concern since 42t adapters are being made. Anyone using 1X11 and successfully climbing the triangle, the slab, the waterfall, etc on National trail?

I don't think you will miss much running 1x11 with a 30 or 32 front ring. My primary SOMO bike is close to 35lbs and though I run 2x9 I think I could get away with with 1x11 with a 30T front without issue. Being that your bike is likely 28lbs, you should have no issue, and frankly I think the 1x11 is a great investment. I would still recommend a bash guard though.

    Yes. Bronson. I run a 28, but I'm a spinner. Should've gotten a 30.

I ride those trails on a 1x10. 32x11/36 gearing. It works for me, just need to keep momentum up and occasionally ride out of the saddle on some tougher climbs. I have been contemplating getting a 42t conversion ring OneUp Components - OneUp Components 42T Sprocket but if I was going to purchase a new drivetrain setup today, I would go with 1x11 for sure. Heck, there are plenty of lunatics who ride Somo on SS bikes!

I should add that I ride a Mojo HD, comaprable to what you are looking at with the Bronson

For the love of god, people ride National on SS. Here's me riding it with my 32t single ring 11-32t cassette 47lb freeride bike. Not that big of a deal, it's mostly in your head. Give it two weeks and riding every other day on all sorts of gear combos and you'd be 90% adapted to whatever gears you are running. If anything, I rarely used a 22t granny (when I had a bike so equipped) on national, because there's just way too much torque and you lose traction with such a low gear. Lots of stuff that was easier in the middle ring.
