Look at the giant thread on the top of this page, and ask yourself if you think this one is relevant.

Why create a thread with no specific direction or question or topic? There's all ready a ton of threads on am hardtails with good info in them...just search and find an existing topic and expand on it. I'm pretty sure i'm not the only one who finds it frustrating when someone starts a new thread and doesn't even have anything to contribute to their own discussion...

Here's a question for this thread .... If you had $2,000 to build the ULTIMATE all mountain hardtail that would offer the most compliant ride possible to absorb bigger jumps and drops while still maintaining the handling, weight and climbing benefits of a good hard tail what would be the frame, fork, wheels and drivetrain you would put on it ... New or used parts.
Are you really sure about that?

OK - I'll go - the one I built up is a Niner Air 9 frame I got on a killer sale, put on a RockShox Reba fork, Sun Ringle Black Flags (tubeless) and Shimano Zee brakes (got a great deal and they are AWESOME and barely get hot on our long descents while I can smell everyone else's brakes!). Also using a Zee derailleur and Paul's chainkeeper on a 1x10 setup (32 - 11/36) that has been good about keeping the chain in place even on the roughest of trails.

Put the bike together for a little over $2000 but it is stout and I have ridden it down some pretty rough stuff (albeit a bit slower than with my FS) and comes in at @24 lbs.
