    1x10 Shimano Question

I am planning on replacing my SRAM X9 rear derail. with Shimano XTR Shadow plus and was wondering if I should go with 11-36 or 11-34 rear cassette. My front cog will be 36.

there is no compelling reason in my book not to go 11-36 unless it it is a dh application.

    1x10 Shimano Question

    If you're riding a 36 up front I'd probably go 11-27.

11-36 no doubt. Been on this setup for 2 seasons now.

If you want to still be able to climb for extended periods I would definitely go 11-36. I had 34t up front and 11-36 in the rear and with all the steep climbs around here I found myself in being in the 36 rear too much. I went down to a 32t up front and it seems to be golden. I run out of gears on the road, but never in twisty singletrack.

Hard to say, since we have no idea how or where you ride. I need a new kayak paddle, should I get a 202 CM or a 198?

Fair enough. I live in MA and most of the singletracks are mix of climbs and descents.

I was running 11-34 and 34 up front and it was a little tough, dropped to 32 front and it was perfect. If I was gonna go 11-36 then I would probably start with a 34 up front.

I run 11-36 cassette and started with a 34t a first, moved down to a 32t and it's just about perfect now. I do ride a lot of steep tech climbs, so the lower range gearing is what I needed. If I rode all singletrack, I'd go back to the 34t.
