    XC Skiers Suck

Ok, not all of them. But, I was out riding on the Cambell Tract multiuse trails yesterday afternoon and came across many people of which were mostly skiers. I greeted all of them with a smile and a quick hello and out of the dozen or so skiers only one actually greeted me back. The rest just turned there snooty ass noses in the air. My perception of them has never been real high, especially since they paved the trails in the same area without public knowledge. It seems to be the fair weather skiers too. The hard core guys/gals out there when it's cold are usually friendly

I know this is a one sided view since I don't ski, but does any one else have a similiar point of view or some points that can help improve my perception?

Sorry for the whining, but it was such a beautiful day yesterday with great trail conditions and warm temps. I would think everyone would be happy just to be outside. I guess that's hard to do when you have the personality of a door knob.

By the way, my STA membership form is in the mail.

Half the bikers I see also dont return hello's either.
Alot of us on the forum are avid skiers, do we suck?

your message title is ingnorant and sterotypical.

you can still be happy even if others arent.

No, that's why I said not all. Kind of like not all horse people need to be banned as mentioned in another thread. As I mentioned I just wanted to know if anyone else felt the same and knowing that some members are avid skiers might help improve my negative views.

You are correct, and that's why I said it was MY perception. Which it has been for a long time and seems to get worse instead of better.

you can still be happy even if others arent
Oh, I'm still happy as always on the trails and will continue to greet everyone I come across. You never know when something may happen and you end up needing their help.

I also appreciate the grooming of the trails and would not be able to ride nearly as much without it. I do everything I can to not mess up the trails. I have even turned around a few times because I was trenching the freshly groomed trail that had not had enough time to set up. But, I have had looks and comments several times that I don't belong on their beloved multiuse trails.

I agree with bearbait in that half the bikers that I pass don't say hello. The majority of the cross country skiers I run into are usually very nice and say hello.I think it just boils down to personal experince in this case. The only group that I have ever had a run in with are horse people.

    Cool,
Dont let little things like that irritate you too much,
I usually get a bit peaved when I dont get repies but after 2 seconds I get psyched since I'm probably enjoying myself more than them...

life, like rides are too short to be mad at people.

I wonder if they percieve groomed trail damage comes from bikes? Maybe they see ruts in a beautifully manicured trail and think "bikers suck". I sure think that about 4-wheelers a lot (and I'M right).

Since most of the cross-country ski trails in Juneau are open only to cross-country skiers, my interaction with other skiers has been as a skier. I'm a poor XC skier, and I've been chewed out a few times by people who think my flailing, pole-flinging style is a safety risk to them. But the majority of the skiers are really nice and ask me if I'm OK when I fall.

You can't lump any user group into one stereotype. For every Euro-snob skier who lectures you on proper trail placement, there's a cyclist who weaves through crowded bike paths without ever warning the startled pedestrians.

What do you care? Are you out there to wave and nod and smile at people or what?

OMG! They didn't wave or say hello! They didn't even look at me!!! What jerks!!!

    skiers in general

I've been skiing and riding in Anch since 1970. Skiers and riders come in all types- the independent nature of the sports draws them in. Skiers are generally a good natured bunch, self sufficient and hearty. I am also a snowmachiner and motorcylist, and I work construction. We're not all Sierra Club groupies. You should hear all those groups b**ch about us. There are exceptional people in all of these sports and there are A-holes. I have noticed on occasion while riding the Tour Trail some skiers giving me the stink eye/don't return the greeting. These sour dumb asses have even b**ched riders out thinking we're churning up the trail and not knowing we're allowed there. Somebody will always piss and moan. If they'd even have bothered to look down they would see we're not leaving any tracks. Anyway, take'em one at a time.

Umm... I'm a skier. An yes, we do suck. I mean they suck. The other skiers that arenít me suck. I hate skiers. Except for those on this board an maybe like one or two others. I guess I canít hate minor skiers that suck because itís just their sucky skier parents that make them suck. I double hate skiers that breed.

Oh yeah, I hate roadies too, especially ones with time trial bikes, except for my friends with time trial bikes. Theyíre OK, but their bikes suck. And mountain bikers. They think they're so cool, all splattered in mud and drinking beer. Those guys suck.

No, you were right the first time Pete, you skiers suck. Nice to see you out skiing the other day by the way. Your team is doing well-they suck too. All those damn kids in great shape having fun skiing in the sun. You all suck. Even mtbr skiers. Especially mtbr skiers-you know-the closet types.

    maaaan....

I joined this web forum like a year ago and the vibe around here was very positive and helpful, and I guess in some ways it still is. Lately, though, I find myself embarassed by some of the content. This sucks..... ban them....? come on this is AK afterall. It seems to me that there are plenty of oportunities to enjoy whatever it is that you want to do if you are willing to put the work in. If you don't like the horses, find some better trails. If you are not down with skiers, well, you are pretty much SOL. Skiers are responsible for some of the raddest stuff that the rest of us benefit from (Alpine and XC). Come on guys lets get off of the hate train and see some rad pics and hear some good ride tales.

    Element of truth to generalization.

Beautiful day today. I was out riding with a friend from out of state on our fat tires on the multiuse trails for a few hours. Passed a few skiers. At the end of the ride my friend commented on how unfriendly some of the skiers were. We said hi to all of them and moved off the side of the trail for the folks skating up the hills we were riding down. Some were totally friendly, but overall they were pretty rude. Maybe skiers do suck. Of course we also passed two bikers that both grunted at us as we said hi.

And Thirstywork, incase you thought I was joking, I really do think roadies, especially one with TT bikes, suck. m I wait a few months to start that thread.

    Chill - Let's go ridin'

What's up dudes? I was trying to surf some porn, but kept getting redirected to the Alaska mtbr forum, because they was too much sucking going on. Oh well, I guess I'll just watch a movie. See you hardcore Frigid Bit-ers out on the trail tomorrow. I can't wait.

    They do in fact suck

Every time I travel the coastal trial I am greeted with hostility and contempt. F you I pay $1.28 above my tax burden (cigarette taxes) into the municipal general fund everyday I work, that money goes towards maintaining these multi-use trails among other things. It's not like there are ski only trails? There are many examples of good skiers out there and i love those people but ya'all with your ninja suits and your unleashed dogs after dark can kiss my fat bike messenger ass.

Don't worry, the snow will be melted soon and the trails will be full of walking tourists. Yay!
